Rissa Hundle looked like an ordinary teenager, but she was far from ordinary. A girl aimlessly walking around in the outdoor mall. She stopped at a few shops. Bought a few clothes. A boy rushed past her grazing her arm. She sighed. New years eve was always busy. Her eyes found the boy instantly. Standing on the edge of the wishing well, a coin in his hand. She thought, New year huh? Well lets make a wish. I can wish for some pretty useful things. Her mind flashed to him. She shook her head in disbelief. Here of all places? She brushed the thought away. Slowly she took out a penny and walked over to the well. Taking a moment to think she tossed the coin in. I wish for $50. She thought smiling with herself. She continued walking. It had just turned dusk when she started home. Passing the park she saw people rushing in and out of houses. The neighborhood smelled like barbecues and cakes. How nice it would be to get invited to one of those parties. Where there were lots of games and music. Instead Rissa would be at home alone, celebrating alone. She didn't exactly have friends. Trying to become a social after having a life of close groups was tough. As she approached her house she saw something odd attached to not only her door but everyone's door. She took the little red envelope off of the door and opened it. Inside was $50. How odd. She laughed to think her wish came true was to think she would every actually fit in. Her house had a certain calming silence. Her voice echoed as she made herself a sandwich and hummed her favorite song. After gobbling up the sandwich she took a bath. When she got out she checked the time. . She sat down on her bed and slowly fell backwards. She put her earplugs in and turned on her music. Her eyelids became heavy and her body ached with fatigue. Her eyes closed. She awoke hours later to realize midnight was 10 minutes away. How could she have fallen asleep? She could have missed midnight. She got up and walked into her backyard, getting a little sidetracked in the kitchen. After getting settled down on the bench outside she checked the time once more. 2 more minutes. Her neighbors all filed out of their houses and into yards and the street. Their countdown started. She looked up into the sky. she took a deep breath 1. Her neighbors screamed "HAPPY NEW YEAR". She dropped her head and whispered, happy new year Alex. Her phone rang inside. Struggling, she unlocked it and answered. The voice on the other end said "We need you again" and hang up, but Rissa already knew who it was. This was going to be one long night.
