His eyes were focused watching him. Rissa looked at the barrels of both guns. Pointed directly at each other. She sat with her hand over the hole the knife created in her shoulder. Blood coated her whole hand, arm, and sleeve. There was silence, no one moved. Each person waiting to see what happens next. This was the gap between life and death. Alex's finger pushed lightly on the trigger as did Kyle's. Rissa closed her eyes worried for the outcome of this battle. Her eyes flew open as the loud bang of the guns echoed around the room. One was left standing the other on the ground. She ran towards Alex. He fell right into her arms. His gun layed on the ground next to him. His hands covered the bullet wound. There was nothing she could do. He layed with his head resting on her lap looking up at her, his eyes softened. That was something Rissa had never seen. He moved. His hand gently brushed her cheek. Creating a faint streak of blood along it. She placed her hand over his. Tears fell down her face, mixing with the blood. She felt weak. She had never cried since her town was attacked. He smiled painfully. "Hey..", He whispered. "Remember what you said? Someone with your job should get sentimental." Rissa laughed. The crimson stain on his shirt grew larger. The blood was the color of his hair. He continued. "Remember how long ago I told you I wanted to become a good person." He laughed. "That never happened." His voice got quieter. "I was silly to think I could just walk away from this, a hero." "You are a hero...My hero." Her voice was sincere. "Thanks." He laughed for the last time. "Goodnight partner." It was barely a whisper. His hand dropped from her face. His lips stopped smiling. He layed motionless beside her, lost to the never ending void of silence. Her phone rang. With blood covered hands she answered it. "Congratulations", the voice said. "you completed your final job."
