"Maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much-"
I picked up my ringing phone, seeing a blocked number was calling me.
"Who are you and why is your number blocked?" I say when I hit accept.
"Stay away from Nick," I hear.
"Seriously Sara?" I ask. "How'd you know it was me?" she asks. "I'm not stupid. I can recognize your voice anywhere," I tell her.
"Oh. Well, stay away from him," she says. "We went on one date. One," I say. "And he gave you his hoodie!" she yells. "Because you spilt your Starbucks all over me!" I argue.
"Well...so?" she asks. "He didn't want me walking around with a coffee stain on my shirt," I say.
She doesn't talk for a minute. "Well, I'm not sending your secret cause Nick doesn't want me to. But if you ever break up or you get into a fight, its getting sent," she snaps. Then the line goes dead.
I hit end and moan. Why does Sara have to be so rude?
I decide to go to the school volleyball court. It's a Saturday, so it's locked, but Coach Allen gave me a key so I can go whenever I want. And that's why she is the best coach.
I always go when I'm stressed, nervous, frustrated, or confused. It helps relieve me.
I end up hitting the ball over the net, and then running to the other side to hit it back.
As I go to get it, I hear a voice behind me.
"Need another player?"
I turn to find Nick. "How'd you get in?" I ask. "You left it open," he tells me.
I nod. He holds out his arms, ready to hit it. "Come on, Jensen. Let's see what you've got."
I smile as I serve it over the net. He runs to hit it, but misses. "Give me a minute! I'll get better!" he laughs as he serves the ball over the net.
An hour later, it's dark, and Nick and I are tied. "Last shot to win!" I yell. "Oh Jensen, I will win!" he yells back.
I serve it over the net, and he hits it back, but it goes out of bounds. "I win!" I yell. "It was a lucky shot!" he laughs.
I put the ball back on the rack, and we both head out.
"That was fun," he says. "Yeah. Nice to have another player for once," I agree.
We come up to his house, and I stop. "Why'd you stop?" he asks. "This is your house," I say. "Kacey, it's 10 at night. Let me walk you home," he smiles.
We talk on the way home. We walk up to my door and we both stop.
"Thanks again," I say. "No problem, beautiful," he smiles. I blush.
"I'll see you Monday," he says. "See you," I wave.
