Do you know what it's like to be dead but not really dead? When you're caught between reality and a dream, when everything is just nothing? Camila wondered about all these things as she herself felt as if she was caught between reality or a dream. She felt as if she was floating and she could see a light. She was so drawn to it, it was so calm and peaceful. That was what she wanted anyway to be calm but there was something holding her back. She heard the cries of a girl? And women. Why are they crying? She wondered. Camila wished she could comfort them but for some reason felt reluctant to. If only Camila knew, it was her little sister Sofia, and her best friends weeping over her cold body. Camila turned towards the light once again, it was growing brighter and brighter until she fully entered.

Lauren looked out the window of the hospital. It was a rainy day in Seattle. Typical, she thought. What wasn't typical though was being in the hospital after getting a frantic call from Dinah.
"Lauren! Lauren! Oh my- " Dinah said breathing heavily. "Dinah, what's wrong? Breathe, okay? Breathe" Lauren said. She quickly grew concerned. "It's Camila, Lauren, she got hit..by a car" Dinah muffled her cries with her sleeve. Lauren eyes grew wide in shock, she didn't even register it at first. "Are you serious?" Lauren asked in a grave tone. "Yes, Lauren!" Dinah said. Lauren's mind doze off as Dinah began telling her how and where it happened.
Lauren sighed and turned up her music. Lauren broke out of her gaze when she felt someone shaking her. She took out her earbuds and looked at the little girl in front of her. "Lolo, is Kaki going to be okay?" Sofia asked. "I don't know my little nugget" Lauren said. She placed Sofia on her lap. "We just have to hope for the best" Lauren said. "Is Camila going to die?" Sofia asked. Lauren eyes widened as she realized just how serious Sofia was. "No Sofia" Lauren said. "Look me in the eye and promise" Sofia said. Lauren's heart broke at those words. "I can't nugget, it all depends on your sister" Lauren replied sadly. The doctor came out and everyone stood up. "Family of Karla Cabello" The Doctor said. "Camila Cabello" Calum corrected her. "Oh uh sorry, which one of you is related to Camila?" The Doctor said. "Sofia" Lauren said holding her hand. "Just her?" She asked. "Uh no, Lauren is her cousin" Dinah said. Lauren looked over to her with a confused expression and Dinah nodded to her. "Uh yes I am" Lauren said. Sofia looked over at Dinah and Lauren and knew she shouldn't say anything, she trusted that they knew what they were doing. "Uhm okay, right this way then" The Doctor said. "Miss, what's your name?" Sofia asked. "I'm Dr. Addams Foster" She replied. Dr. Addams Foster looked down at Sofia with a smile and Sofia smiled back feeling a bit confident that Camila would be okay. The Doctor was tall and to Sofia she seemed to be a giant, she had curly hair and light brown skin. So far she seemed genuinely nice. She stopped at the door then turned to Lauren and Sofia. "Now kids, if it gets to much for you, you can always leave the room, we're doing the best we can though" She looked down at Sofia mostly while speaking. Lauren nodded and held Sofia's hand. The Doctor opened the door to reveal Camila who was hooked up to a bunch of machines and had a tube in her mouth. Lauren gasped and slowly walked towards Camila with Sofia following her. The room was quiet except for the sound of the monitor slowly beeping. "Kaki" Sofia sobbed. "Oh my gosh Camz, what happened to you" Lauren's bottom lip quivered. The doctor looked at them with sorrow and pity, Her heart ached for all three girls. She walked towards them and placed her hand on Lauren's shoulder. "We're doing everything we can" She said. "That doesn't mean anything, I'm not stupid, I know that means she won't make it, just tell us the truth, I can't deal with any more lies or people stalling the inevitable" Lauren said. The Doctor was shocked by her hostile tone but it wasn't uncommon, many of the families of her patients are overwhelmed at first. "I'm sorry, look her brain was failing along with other organs and we needed to make a quick decision so she's in a medically induced coma, when that car hit her she lost function in her cerebellum, which is the- " "Part of the brain that controls balance, movement, and coordination, I know" Lauren interrupted. "Uh yes that is correct" Dr. Addams Foster said. She looked at the green eyed girl with a surprised expression. "I told you, I'm not stupid" Lauren replied. "I can see that- but as I was saying she's paralyzed from the waist down, and her left lung lost all function, her ribs are severely damaged which caused her to have a flail chest so right now we input metal plates to possibly repair the fractures" She said. Lauren looked away and nodded. "What's your name sweetie?" Dr. Addams Foster asked. "Lauren, what's yours?" Lauren sniffled. "Lena" The Doctor sighed. "Lena Addams Foster" Lauren smiled. "That's an awesome name" Lauren said. Lena laughed and felt that she finally broke through to the girl. "Listen there's a 40% chance of Camila's survival, that's pretty good at this point, and it can increase" Lena said. "So there's a 60% chance that Camila dies" Lauren said. "Uh yes at this moment" Lena said. "Do you believe your friend is strong?" Lena asked. "Uh yea, I guess" Lauren said. Lena took Lauren's hand in hers and Lauren turned to face her, "You have to know Lauren" Lena said. Lauren sighed. "Of course she's strong" She said. "Well it's all up to her, if she wants to stay and if she's strong enough, it's her willpower that will give her a fighting chance" Lena said. The door suddenly opened and Camila's parents charged in. "Karla" Her Dad said. Lauren, Sofia, and Lena stood up. "I assume you're the parents" Lena said. "Yes we are, is she going to be okay?" Her mother asked. "SINCE WHEN DID YOU CARE?!?!" Sofia yelled. "She's LYING IN A HOSPITAL BED PAPI AND MOMMY, WAS THIS THE ONLY WAY WE COULD GET YOUR ATTENTION?!?!" Sofia ranted. "Sofia shhh, let's go cool down okay?" Lauren said in a soft tone. She wrapped her arms around Sofia as she cried. Lena quirked her eyebrow at the altercation. "I'll be with you girls later, I just have to explain things to Sofia and Camila's parents" Lena said. Lauren nodded and took Sofia out of the room. "Sofia, breathe, everything will be okay, Camila will be back before you know it okay?" Lauren said. "She'd want you to be brave, though." Lauren said. "Okay." Sofia said.

"Lauren, where were you?" Mike asked. "I was at the hospital" Lauren replied. "The hospital? what for?" Mike's voice wavered. "Camila got hit- by a car" Lauren said with a pause. "What? How are Alejandro and Sinuhe doing?" Mike asked. "DAD! Her parents weren't the ones that were hit by a car, she's lucky to be alive right now" Lauren said. She couldn't comprehend why he would ask about Camila's parents first. "Sorry, but I never liked your friends anyway, you seem so upset these days, however I do hope Camila is okay, it would be horrible if she passed" Mike said. "I can't believe you they make me happy, and Camila deserves to be happy" Lauren exclaimed. "Lauren, you're not yourself, I know you" He said. "What? You don't know me, I don't even know myself" Lauren said. "What's that suppose to mean?" He asked. "I can't right now okay, I just want to go to my room" Lauren said. "When did I tell you to go to your room?" He asked. "My friend is dying! You don't think I need some space!" Lauren yelled. "Relax, do you need to take some advil, maybe that'll make you calm" Mike said. "No, that is so demeaning, don't do that" Lauren said. "You can go to your room Lauren" He scowled. Lauren scoffed and ran to her bedroom. She stood in her room then started pacing.

Lauren stopped in the middle of her room and turned her gaze to the bathroom. She slowly walked towards the door then locked it behind her. She stood in front of the mirror and didn't move.
How did I get so broken? She thought. Lauren's ringtone started and she picked up her phone, looking at the caller I.D. It was Dinah, but she didn't want to talk to anyone. The phone stopped ringing and she got a text message instead. It was Luke.
HemmoLuke- Hey Lo, you okay?
JauguayLo-I'm fine Luke, no need to ask
HemmoLuke- I don't believe you
JauguayLo- You don't need to
HemmoLuke- She'll be okay Lo, we always push through
JauguayLo- I know
JauguayLo- Do you have that feeling that makes you think something is about to happen?
HemmoLuke- Sometimes, right now yeah
JauguayLo- Are you scared?
HemmoLuke- No, are you?
JauguayLo- I'm nervous
HemmoLuke- Me too
