Chapter 10

Melanie's POV

After meeting with Jack, I went back home and ate dinner with my family. Afterwards I went to take a quick shower and the moment I lay myself on the bed, I fell into a deep sleep.

I opened my eyes and checked the clock and it was 9:31 a.m. I stretched while yawning widely. Ugly to imagine. I know. I checked my phone and saw a few messages from Lucas.

'Hey are you free today?' -1.15 p.m
'Wanted to invite for a movie' -1.16 p.m
'Well if you're free then hit me up' -1.16 p.m
'Looks like you're not free.' -2.37 p.m

It was yesterday's. Dang it. Should have checked my phone. Mentally slapping myself, I released a heavy sigh showing how done I am to myself. I feel bad.

I replied him back
'Sorry ! I wasn't free yesterday, a friend asked me out to movies too :('
'I promise you next time ! Let's watch a movie alright, it'll be my treat. I feel really bad and just wanted to make it up to you.'

Closing my phone, I got up and decided to proceed with my daily routine.

I wanted to get a few books from the bookstore, so I decided to call Roni to tag along with me so that I wouldn't be alone. I picked her up at her house and we talked while making our way to the mall. 

Once we've reached the mall, we made our way to the bookstore. The bookstore has two levels, and it also has a starbucks in it for people to relax while having a cup coffee while reading. Wanting to buy a caramel latte, I told Roni that I was going to grab a drink and offered to buy her one. But she politely declined and said that she wants to look around the bookstore.

When I went in Starbucks, I saw Lucas and Jack sitting by the windows, chatting with each other. Lucas seemed to notice my presence, and looked at my way. When we made eye contact, he gave me a playful wink and smirk. I felt my cheeks being warm, but decided to play it off by laughing. Jack soon enough turned his head and smiled widely when he saw me. 

Jack stood up and made his way to me while Lucas was leaning against his chair with the smug look on his face. "Hey, didn't expect to see you this soon. If you're free come and join us for a chat" said Jack while smiling kindly at you. 

"I came here with Roni, but I think it wouldn't hurt for me to chat for a bit." after saying that, Jack's face got even brighter. He said he was happy that I could join, he lead me to the table they were sitting at while holding my hands.

I felt as if someone was looking, and I was right. When I looked around I saw Lucas staring at us while looking annoyed. His hands now are in his pocket. Now I suddenly felt nervous to join them for a small chat.

Once we reached the table, Jack pulled out a chair for me and offered me to sit first. I smiled at his kind gesture and felt butterflies in my stomach. Then I heard someone clearing their throat, which I realized who that someone was. It was Lucas, he was somehow glaring at me and Jack. 

"So, why are you guys suddenly so friendly with each other ?" Lucas asked while looking between you and Jack. "We've been good friends for years, what do you mean why are we suddenly friendly." Jack snapped back at him with a serious tone. They were now just looking at each other, actually no, more like glaring at one another.

This made me realize that there was suddenly a tension between the two men. You felt like you needed to get out of this fight so you decided to say that you were going to grab a drink. Both of them broke their staring contest and looked at you. When you stood up, Lucas stood up as well.
