Chapter 14

Melanie's POV

It's been 2 weeks since the kiss between me and Lucas that has happened. Ever since that situation, me and Lucas has been oddly closer ? By that I mean we always hang out after school, even my two best friends told me I'm ditching them for a guy, which was clearly a banter.

The past 2 weeks, nothing special really happened but I'll tell you the important ones. I've been getting closer to Jack and Lucas. Jack is a sweetheart let me tell you that. As for Lucas, he's just Lucas. Also, I've been making friends, which was a good thing.

Now I'm currently waiting for Lucas, since we're having our everyday routine after school. Which was to hang out together. He was suddenly late today ? Probably got caught up with something.

While I was leaning against the tree near the spot we usually meet, Jack came by and sat beside me quietly. He was sitting on my right side. He greeted me with a sweet smile, how can he be with Lucas' gang.

"So what are you up to ?" He started the conversation first. "Currently I'm just waiting for Lucas to come and meet me" I replied back and saw a displeased look from Jack. He was suddenly quiet, which made me look at him curiously. Now he was just looking up admiring the scenery of the sky.

"What's wrong ? Do you have something bothering you ?" I asked him. He kept quiet for a few seconds before answering.

"Actually, yes there is something bothering me." The tone in his voice was different from his usual tone. I suddenly got worried, it might be something serious. "Well, mind telling me what's wrong ?" I asked while placing my hand on his left thigh.

"You. You're the problem here." He replied slowly.
What ? I looked at him confusingly, waiting for him to continue talking.

"I just- I don't know. I don't like it, how you're close to Luke, how you're always with him, how you always look the happiest when you're with him" His voice cracked a bit when he said the last part. His eyes was closed, I saw him swallowing hard, making his adam's apple bobbled up and back down. 

Feeling bad, I held his left hand trying to comfort him. I felt him squeezing my hand, not too hard but definitely feel the pressure.

"Can't I be the person that will make you happy ? Do you hate me ? We've been childhood friends Melanie. Have you never even look at me as a man ? Every story I know, the girl will always fall in love with the childhood friend. Were you never in love with me even once ?" He suddenly look at me and I see his eyes being watery. We looked at each other.

My right hand started to hurt, as Jack squeezed it a bit harder than before. Oh god, I felt my heart. It hurts so much. Knowing this is happening, it's making me feel like an ass. Have I never felt anything for Jack ? Has he been in love with me ever since we were friends. The answer is obviously a yes.

"I'm sorry Jack, I didn't know about this. I- I honestly am not sure where should I start" I let out a nervous laugh.

"It's okay you don't have to respond to all of it. I'm just letting it out, I've been keeping it. I just want to ask you one question. Can I ?" He said with a serious tone, still looking at me.

"Do you like Luke ?" He asked me, our hands still intertwined. "Um, I don't know" I said nervously.
But Jack is not having that answer, "I'll ask you one more time, do you like Luke." He repeated his words, and suddenly I felt intimidated by him, and I've never felt that before.

After a few minutes of silence I gave him the answer. "Yes." That moment his shoulder definitely dropped and he looks upset about the answer.

"I'm so stupid, I know you'll say yes. But inside I always have a bit of hope" He chuckled while looking down. He lets go of my hand. But now both of his hands are cupping my cheeks. He was looking at me in the eyes, never breaking the eye contact.

"I'm not going to force on you, so I'll let you make the choice. I will kiss you now, if you don't want it just push me away, okay ?" He said quietly, and that's when I realized our face was close. I never said anything as words can't seem to come out of my own mouth.

That's when I felt his lips on mine, kissing me. It was a deep kiss, passionate one. His lips was soft. I closed my eyes and let the kiss deepens. After he pulled back, I felt his feelings for me was definitely real. His forehead was resting on mine, while we both are catching our breath. I was craving more.

Our foreheads are still touching, he broke the silence and said "I'm the one for you, please Melanie. Lucas is a scumbag that doesn't deserve you." He whispered quietly, while stroking my cheek.

"I don't know Jack, I'm so confused." I said while pulling away, looking down. He suddenly lifted my chin so we both are looking at one another.

"I love you, Melanie." The moment that word left his mouth is the moment where he was pushed back to the ground by Lucas.
