He hugged the small, bundled up child against his chest gently, humming quietly as the cries that had woken him up settled down.
He rocked gently, knowing by now the best way to put his little one to sleep. This was a common occurrence.
He took a deep breath, before his smooth voice filled the room quietly.
"Close your eyes, my sweet darling, and let your dreams take you. Tomorrow we'll start all over, start all over new. Sleep now, my child, for I'll keep the nightmares away. You'll never have to worry, I'll love and protect you forever and a day."
