How could she have been so naive. To think that she thought that Sean and the others might have wanted to hurt her. In all of her frantic fear, she never even thought to think that something bigger, something worse than a few fake guards, could be out there. That they could be lurking around the corner, waiting for her to mess up.

Why on earth did the king and queen choose her to be the new crown princess, of all people, they chose her. She just couldn't see what they saw in her.

"Wow." Charlotte said in response to everything Sean had just told her. "They really... they... out there... wow... I'm so sorry...I ... I guess I thought... that you... wow... I'm so stupid."

"You couldn't have known." he replied patiently. "You would have gotten away if I hadn't decided to bring you food." he said with a small laugh.

His laugh made me forget everything that was going on, the threats and possibilities, all of it vanished until all I could think about was him and his desire to protect me. It was silly though, because that was just his job. But when he laughed, it made me think for a split second, that he was doing it all for me, not the no name soon to be crown princess.

"Get down Princess!" she heard Sean shout.

She crouched down behind Sean even though every part of her was screaming to get up and fight. She wanted so badly to help but she knew that even if she did risk her life and the future of the kingdom, it would've been for nothing, because her hopeless self wouldn't be much help anyway.

Fear rolled through her like a tidelwave smashing onto the beach. She couldn't believe she was here, cornered in a seemingly never ending forest, but she couldn't stop thinking about Sean. If Sean went down, she went down. He was the only one who knew his way around the forrest. She didn't even know where the forest was, let alone how to get out of it and into the castle.

Her heart dropped a thousand miles as the sound of a gun shot ricocheted in her ear and Sean dropped to the ground beside her.

"Sean!" she heard herself stutter out a shocked scream. It felt as though a thousand sharp jagged knifes were plummeting through her heart over and over again. She felt her throat close up as another scream desperately escaped her. "Sean!"

"Princess..." he choked out. "When I say, you have to run. Faster than you've ever run. Okay?"

"No!" she replied shocked at his proposal.

"You have to princess. You have to and you will. You will run and you WILL find the castle. I know you will." he said. She thought she could see the glimmer of tears on the verge of falling down his face.

She couldn't leave him. She wouldn't leave him. She would never make it, and neither would he. She could see the violent scarlet blood flowing out of the wound at his stomach and shoulder. She would find a way her racing heart told her. But her mind screamed something else: there is no way.

"Charlotte. CHARLOTTE!" a voice yelled.

Her foggy brain went into overdrive as she tried to figure out where she was and why she didn't already know that.

"Char." the voice said again, gently this time, as she felt someone shake her shoulder.

"Sean!" she yelled remembering the wounds and thick scarlet blood.

"Woah there princess. I'm right here." he replied calmly.

Seeing his face brought immediate relief to her pounding heart and screaming body. It must have been a nightmare, and they probably wouldn't be getting better any time soon.

"Oh thank god!" she mumbled into his chest as she wrapped her arms around him, tears starting to flow down her face.

"What happened?" he asked, worry written across his face, as he cupped her face in his hands, moving it back and forth to check for damage.

"Nightmare."

"Want to talk about it?" he asked gently.

"I don't think I can right now." she replied with a shiver of fear.

He said nothing, just wrapped her up in his strong arms and stood there with her as she breathed in his smell and took in the scenery and sounds of her new adventure in the forest.

She had no idea what she was supposed to do, how she was going to help, but for now she decided to just stand with Sean and let all of her fear and doubts melt away. She would figure everything else out later.
