*Short Note: Time has passed for Charlotte and the king and everyone else since the last chapter and you do find out more later in the book but please try to roll with it. 😉 I promise I have a plan! 😊*
Her brain was foggy, muddy, broken; she couldn't remember anything from the past 24 hours. She didn't know where she was or how she had gotten there; she didn't know why she had a pounding headache in her ears, or why her heart was racing like a thousand horses thundering down a hill. She had no idea what was going on, all she knew was that it hurt to move, to blink, to breathe, to think.
"Oh thank god you're awake!" a voice rose up from beside her.
Her eyebrows scrunched together as she slowly turned her head, her eyes blinking repeatedly with great effort as they tried to adjust to the bright light streaming through the window. As if reading her mind, someone walked over to the window and shut the curtains so the light wasn't shining directly in her eyes.
"Here, drink this." she heard the voice again as a spoon was shoved in her mouth with quite a bit of force.
"Bu-" her attempted stubbornness was interrupted as the voice shoved another spoonful of what seemed to be potato soup.
As the voices arm pulled away with the spoon once more, she was finally able to catch a glimpse of the aforementioned voice's source.
A bristly man in his mid to late forties sat next to her in a worn armchair that screamed late 1930's. His disheveled hair led her to believe that he had been waiting here with her for a very long time.
He offered her a sheepish smile and opened his mouth to say something, but seemed to think better of it.
"Where am I?" she croaked, her voice painfully cracking as though she hadn't used her voice in ages.
"Wh-where are you?" the man asked in shock, or perhaps fear, or could it be hope.
"Who are you, why am I here, and most importantly why the hell does it feel like my head is about to explode?" She askes flinching at her own voice raising in what she can only place as anger.
"Uhmm... well... why don't you finish your soup up and then we will see what the doctor has to say about your... condition. Okay?" he asks calmly, diplomatically.
"I don't know, I want to know now..." She was once again interrupted by a spoonful of soup. Well at least it was the best potato soup she could remember having.

"I-I'm who? You're what? We are where?" she repeated utterly dumbfounded.
"I know, I know, it must be a lot to swallow, but just take it easy and let it sink in." he replied calmly. "Do you have any other questions?"
"N-no, not that I can think of at the moment." she said uneasily, raking her hands through her greasy ruffled hair.
Her mind wandered and she shifted in the bed. "Can I take a bath please?" She asked softly, afraid of rejection.
"Yes! Of course let me just get your maids, Desdemonda, Aura, and Willow."
Right as she was beginning to wonder what kind of name Desdemona was, the king returned to her room followed by her maids. Wow, she was going to have to get used to that thought, the fact that she had maids.
"Hey! Although I was probably introduced as Desdemonda, I go by Des." One of the maids said before pointing to the girls standing to either side of her. "And this is Willow and Aura."
Well, Des is definitely much cooler than Desdemonda, and strangely enough, less intimidating. She was starting to warm up to the whole crown princess bomb and to her new maids. She just couldn't believe she could forget her whole family, and the fact that she was a princess.

"Wow! I'm such a miracle worker," Des said humorously. Des, Willow, and Aura had managed to bathe Charlotte and give her a extreme makeover in just under 3 hours.
"I'm so amazed," Charlotte deadpanned in response, failing to remain serious as she cracked a smile at her own sense of humor.
"Haha, very funny." Des responded with a genuine smile of her own.
Charlotte looked at herself in the mirror her reflection startled her and she flinched away before returning to a normal upright posture, as though nothing had happened.
"Miss? Are you alright?" Willow asked, concern dwarfing all other emotions that had previously been shown on her face.
"Oh, please. Call me Charlotte. And I'm fine just a little surprised at how fast you fixed me up!" She lied, feigning happiness and comfort as she pushed away this feeling of unfamiliarity.
"So, umm, one of the guards requested to talk to you. I know the king said that you shouldn't have to much socialization in fear of overstimulation, but he sounded desperate and I don't think one person would be very harmful." Des attempted to lighten the mood a bit. "His name is Sean."
At those four simple words her mind went into overdrive. She knew she had heard that name somewhere, it meant something, but it was too distant, too far away. It was as though something was on the tip of her tongue, right on the edge, but it was just barely out of reach.
Then she did something reckless, instead of encouraging the thought come forth through her foggy broken mind, she pushed it away.
She raked her eyes over her body once more through the mirror, noting the arch of her cheekbones, the shape of her nose and her eyes, the way her hair fell over her shoulders in curls that took Des mere minutes to perfect seeing as her hair was naturally curly and just needed the smallest amount of attention. The hazel of her eyes contrasted with the rose golds and browns of the eyeshadow that Des had picked out just for her.
She pushed away the feeling of dreadful, lurking unfamiliarity, and with a smile said the following words that unknowingly shaped her life at the castle, "When?"
Des' smile grew tremendously in true sincerity and she adjusted one of charlotte's curls.
"Meet him at the main stairway at midnight tonight."
