Mamoona

It was three days before Sabrina's wedding. I prepared a beautiful and modest dress that I made a few years back for events like this. It was a peach mermaid dress with ruffles on the bottom of the dress. It was hanging on my closet door. I heard my front door closed and I went downstairs to see my dad has come home. "Hi, Abi," I said to him.

My dad took off his shoes as he entered the living room. "Hello, Mamoona," he said, "how was school today?"

My heart pounded off my chest when he asked. "Today was great," My voice shook as I faked a smile.

I didn't like lying to my parents, but what else could I do? But luckily for me, I got news that would make my dad proud. I did owe it to him. "Abi, can you set up me to meet Aban? I think I might be interested in meeting him."

I saw my dad's eyes lit up. "Really, my dear? You want to meet him?" He asked. I heard the excitement in his voice.

"Yeah, I do. Well, I don't know about marriage yet, but it would be nice to see an old friend," I told my dad.

My dad took out his cell and started scrolling through his contacts. "Okay, I'll go speak to his parents and we will invite him and his family to Sabrina's wedding," he said, "where's your Umi? I want to tell her the good news."

"Umi is at the mall with the younger ones, they went to get new shoes for the wedding," I told him.

He took his seat on the sofa and stroke his salt and pepper beard. "Have you chose out your dress yet?"

I nodded. "Yes Abi, I have," I said, "I am very happy for Sabrina. She's going to be a very beautiful bride."

I sat down beside my dad. "Yes, she is. She got a very nice suitor and I cannot wait for you to have that," he told me, "I also cannot wait until you become a great doctor."

That's when I felt like I made the biggest mistake of my life. How am I ever going to tell him now? My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach.
