I decide, that to get to Mayler, I would need to find out where she is going next, and the best place to do that, would be the stables. They aren't that far away. I decide as I 'powerwalk' to the shed.
When I arrive I start to notice different details that I didn't care about yesterday, (probably because I was to terrified to notice). The metal walls towered over me and the concrete flaws were so covered in claw marks that it looked like a patterned print. The walls were covered in acid and ash that it 'complemented' the greasy roof, that had hole filled beams holding it up. The whole building looked like it was about to fall apart. But it didn't, somehow. I figured the best place to find information about Maylers root would probably be in that dentist like room at the back, but when I got there I was disappointed. One of the two draws I opened was empty and the second one ahead a little mouse family in it. Gross. The whiteboard was blank and the desk had nothing but a snapped pencil and a cranky spider. The rest of the shed was useless, the other little room was nothing but a smelly toilet and the rest of the stables had nothing but ashes for clues. Waist of time much. I guess I'll just have to find my dragon on my own knowledge now. I thought as I sub led out of the tin stables.
The stiff grass bristles rubbed against my shoes as I kicked jagged rocks aimlessly. I followed the cracked paths with my head down, trying to draw as little attention to myself as possible. Of course, with a bright purple streak, that's harder than it looks. People walked about two meters away from me, occasionally giving me a dark look, anyone who didn't see the streak probably thought I had some, terrible, contagious disease. I didn't like how everyone was watching me. I figured that seeing as I have never seen a death dragon in my life, they wouldn't want to be so in the open, if I were a death dragon, where would I hide? Then it occurred to me, that I was a death rider, it is in my instinct to act and think like my dragon, so scrap 'where would a dragon hide' and bring on the where would I hide?
"Well probably somewhere dark," I muttered to my self, "because that way, the darkness could protect me from whoever was trying to find me. Well, where is some place dark? The night sky is dark, but then your stuck in the light at day. Under the ocean dark, but only water dragons have gills. Forests are dark, and I like forests, so let's check there." I decide.
As I walk, I notice something weird. The shadows around me seemed to be drawing into me. It was like I was some kind of shadow magnet. Each shadow darkened as it got closer to me, once I passed it, each shadow just went back to normal. No one else seemed to have this, but then again, no one else had a death class dragon. With a few abrupt, slightly scared, turns and corners, I finally reach the dark forest. The shadow of the forest stretched as if it was reaching for me, I stepped back nervously, but I didn't know what else to do. Shadows can't hurt me, shadows can't hurt me, shadows can't hurt me. I took a nervous step into the darkness and instantly the shadows turn pitch black, the colour got sucked out of me until it was like I was standing in a different time zone. For me it was night, but for everyone else it was day. My heart started to pound and again my hands went numb, my breathing picked up and my knees nobbled, until I couldn't hold it in anymore. "Stop." I yelled abruptly.
Suddenly the shadow backed away, it hid behind the trees I was facing and turned away from me. Although things were still not normal, it was like the shadows were afraid of me, almost like I was some kind of bright light, but when I looked down at my hands, they didn't glow at all.
Admittedly that was the first time, that I had ever been afraid of the dark. I had never liked bright lights, never had a nightlight, never liked spotlights, and I would always choose a cloudy, rainy day over a sunny 'happy' day.
But I was not going to let some light trick stop me from finding my dragon, I was not going to let anything stop me from finding my dragon. After a deep breath, I climbed the fence and entered the forest.
It took a few seconds, but the shadows ended up turning to normal. Maybe I was just seeing things, shadows can't really move. Can they?
It wasn't long before creepy things started happening. The sky was still crystal blue, but from the tree night down, it was nearly pitch black, my surroundings were a blur and I couldn't see anything that was one metre ahead of me, I stubbled over thick, twisted roots and trip through sharp bristly bushes.
Suddenly, the tree on front of me had a slight glow, reflecting of the right side. I placed my hand on the light of the tree but there was nothing out of the ordinary. It was then that I realise that it wasn't the tree that was lit up, it was something next to the tree that was making it seem, lit up. With my hand still on the firm bark I cautiously twist my neck to face the faint glow.
My heart skips a beat when I see to blue green eyes blink at me. Their surroundings were black, even darker than the rest of the forest. They had cat like slits and were the size of tennis balls. The blue, green centre was watery and seemed to swirl in the socket. There was no white in the eye, but that didn't show any less emotion. Somehow the eyes seemed to be a mix of fear and anger, as if I was some scary beast who had trodden over his tail, or her tail, I couldn't tell. The slit pupils stayed on me, and I didn't know wether to run away or take a step closer
I chose wrong. I stepped forward and snapped a stick. Should have seen that coming!
The beast launched itself at me, but it seemed to be wrapped in darkness because I couldn't see what had launched. Before I knew it I had been smacked in the face by what felt like a smooth paw. A stiff fat whip like thing slapped me over the leg and another paw scratched across my arm, as quickly as I could I ducked down and grabbed a thick stick, with a smooth swish a hit something near those eyes. My mind wasn't thinking properly and I stumbled backwards away from the attacking creature. Unfortunately, mid swing my foot got caught in a root. I fell backwards terrified.
My breaths were short, sharp and inconsistent. But the eyes didn't stay on me. The monster seemed to have completely lost me, I could here a strong sniff sound as if it was trying to smell me, but when it caught a sent, it completely over looked me, it was as if I was invisible.
The monster trudged away grumpily, well, I didn't see it waddle away, but I heard the sniffing get quieter and quieter.
I reached forward to loosen my foot from the root, but when I took a first glance at my hand, it wasn't there. Well, it was there, but I could only just see a faint black outline. The shadows had done the same thing they did earlier. I had been hidden in the darkness. The exact same way the shadows did to the monster.
