Serena

I didn't bother saying goodbye as I stepped out of Daniel's car, nor did I look back. I knew that he would be watching me, making sure that I was actually going to the salon.

Considering that it was early March, it was still pretty cold outside. A slight breeze began to blow across the parking lot, making me hug my jacket closer to my body. Just as I approached the front door of Candy's Hair Salon, another car pulled into the lot, parking next to Daniel's car. I waited patiently as Candace exited her car and hurried over to me. I laughed slightly at her attempting to run in her six inch heels, her dark hair blowing crazily in the wind.

"Hey Rena!" She greeted happily as she unlocked the door.

"You got some last night, didn't you." I asked, even though it came off as more of a statement. She opened the door just as Daniel drove off, and I followed her inside.

"Girl, let me tell you." We hung up our jackets and I hopped up to sit on the front desk. "I met this fine ass guy, and we were all up on each other the whole night..." I let Candance rant about  her latest encounter. Its not like this was anything new. Her stories usually began with her meeting yet another guy, at a club, on a Saturday night, and ended with him spending the night at her house.

"Are you going to see him again?" I asked Candace who was seated in the chair at the front desk, flipping through the book that listed the scheduled appointments for today.

She didn't look up as she replied. "Well, he wasn't there when I woke up, so that can't be a good sign."

"Having a one night stand doesn't exactly spell commitment." I retorted sarcastically.

"Shut up, not everyone can have a perfect man like you. It's so sweet that Daniel watches over you. I wish a man would do that for me." she sighed dreamily and continued flipping through her magazine. I had to stop myself from snorting at her comment. That man was anything but perfect.

At that moment, Thalia and Mario came through the front door, loud as shit, arguing as usual. "What's your disagreement about this time?" Candace asked, not even looking up from the book.

Thalia flipped her long dark hair over her shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest. "There was this guy checking me out but Mario thinks that he was looking at him." She explained, glaring at Mario.

He glared right back at her. "That's because he was looking at me. My gay-dar is never wrong. He wanted me." He stated confidently.

"No man that sexy can be gay!" Thalia hollered, marching off to her work station.

"The sexiest ones are always gay! I mean, look at me!" Mario said, gesturing to his body.

I did my best to tune out their petty argument for the rest of the morning which wasn't hard considering that I've been working with both of them for about seven months.

Candace opened up 'Candy's salon' about a year ago, and I was her very first employee. But three months later Thalia and Mario walked in. With her attitude, mocha skin and long hair, and his light skin, loud mouth, and vibrant green hair, they were like a dynamic duo bent on making my life a living hell. But even though they were two of the most annoying people I've ever met, I couldn't help but loved the two of them like I've known them my whole life.

It was about one o'clock in the afternoon when my favorite client, Ms. Georgia walked in and came right over to my station. She scheduled an oppointment with me every Sunday, and hadn't missed a Sunday since I began working here a year ago.

"Good afternoon Ms. Georgia.  How are you today?" I asked as she gave me a hug.

"Still single." She replied without hesitation. I led her to the back of the salon so that I could get her hair washed.
