Craig

My bedroom had three walls that were painted an off white color, but the last wall wasn't a wall at all. It was made entirely of glass and gave the perfect view to my private beach in the backyard of my large, spacious house. The king sized bed that I was currently lying on was in the center of the room, up against the wall adjacent to the glass wall.

I woke up alone in my bed with the sun streaming in, and stared at myself in the ceiling mirror directly above my bed.

I was engaged.

I certainly didn't look like someone who was about to tie the knot. My face lacked enthusiasm, and any emotion for that matter. Why didn't I look happy?

Because youre not. That annoying voice in the back of my head felt the need to constantly remind me of my unhappiness.

In an attempt to silence the nagging voice, I sat up in bed and grabbed the remote on the nightstand. I pointed it at the flat screen Tv on the wall directly across from me and turned it on.

At that moment Hana came through the door wearing nothing else but one of my t-shirts that was much too large for her. She was balancing a silver tray in one hand while the other was hiding something behind her back.

"Good Morning sleepy head. I made you breakfast." She cheerfully set the tray on the nightstand and stood in front of me with a huge smile on her face, her left hand still behind her back.

"Baby you didn't have to do that. You should've just had the cook make something. " I said , taking the tray from her.

"I gave her the day off because I wanted to take care of my man personally. Don't worry about it." She said, waving me off dismissively.

"So, what are you hiding behind your back?" I planned on just eating my food and ignoring her, but my curiosity got the better of me.

"This!" She took her hand from behind her back and shoved a magazine in my face. On the front cover there was a picture of Hana and I with the headline , "Super Star Craig Crippen is Engaged!"

"Isn't it wonderful Craig? Now everyone knows about us!" Hana excitedly took the magazine back from me. I got up from the bed and picked up the food Hana brought in, leaving her in the room staring at the magazine as if it were a newborn baby.

I made my way to the kitchen downstairs and was startled to find Jacob sitting on the kitchen counter, chewing on one of Hana's granola bars. He was laughing at my reaction so hard, pieces of granola began falling out of his mouth.

Nicki moved to L.A. to go to college, but Jacob claimed he couldn't be away from her, so moved down here too. They have been living down here ever since, so Jacob was over my house quite often.

"What the fuck man, how did you get in here?" I asked him as my heart returned to its normal rate. My house had a gate that would have to have the password put in for it to open.

"Oh please, I've seen you put your password in enough times to know it." He said, waving me off dismissively. "By the way, these granola bars are on point. Where does Hana get these?"

"Do you not realize that you basically just broke into my house?" I asked incredulously. He shrugged as he finished off the last of his granola bar and rubbed his hands together to get the crumbs off.

"Oh stop being a baby. Its not like you're going to sue me. Do you have any more food around here?" He asked looking around the kitchen as if I would leave all my food sitting on the counters for him to devour.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, ignoring his question. Jake jumped off the counter and made his way over to the refrigerator.

"Well, I wanted to do something special for Nicki since its our wedding anniversary. Any suggestions?" He asked as he rummaged through the leftovers I had in the fridge.
