Prologue

It was like time went on a slow motion drive. My knees suddenly lost all of its strength and it collided with the ground. What I was seeing before me would forever be etched in my mind. My beloved, dearest twin brother was shot with a silver bullet into his lung. Even if we werewolves were shot with silver, it only hurts us and renders us incapable of movement for a period of time but a silver shot into any critical organs or to the head, it was capable of killing us. I didn't know why the thought of using my powers ceased to pass through my mind. All I knew was that my eyes were fixated to where my twin had collapsed from the impact of the shot a few feet ahead of me.

After only a few seconds, but what felt like hours, a familiar blonde wolf flashed by my side while growling viciously and killed the person who cruelly shot my brother by snapping his neck with an audible crack. I heard a distant murmur, "Prince X is going to kill us again," but my brain could barely register and digest whatever that could have meant. I was still intently staring at my brother, unwilling to believe that he was gone.

The blonde wolf shifted back into his human form and he rushed to my brother's side. I followed suit soon after regaining some strength to my legs and dashed the remaining distance to where my brother was laying limply. My Papa, the blonde wolf shifter, picked my twin's head up and put it on his lap. I grabbed my twin's hands as whispered urgently to my twin brother not to leave us and hang on non-stop while my father was rocking his only son.

With his remaining strength, Kai-Ren glanced at us and whispered, "I love you Papa, and Kay. Take care." The words echoing loud and clear through our mind link before he vanished before us. He literally just vanished. His body seemingly evaporated into thin air.

I vaguely heard my father whispered, "Just like his mother." But, I did not give it much thought for I was in a daze, unwilling to accept that my twin was fully gone. I was brought back to the harshness of reality when I felt that I was being carried and rocked by a familiar touch. Jake, the only cousin I had was soothing me while I continued spilling silent tears. Jake passed me to my father and Papa carried me back to our humble abode while patting my back with Jake walking beside us silently.

That night was the first night I cried myself to sleep as the overwhelming sorrow of my dead twin brother engulfed me. The special being whom I spent my first seventeen years with was truly gone.

In a faraway kingdom

"Your majesty, Sir. The doctors have finished the emergency surgery on the young lad and has transferred him into the ward by the Princess side."

The King nodded his head in acknowledgment and dismissed the messenger. He then walked the distance to the ward where his nephew was currently residing in, by his mother's side. This reminded him so much of when Aurora was first brought back here after long years. He had always kept a look out on both his sisters and their family on the other side of the mirror, and it pained him that his dearest baby sister was reunited with him after so long under dire circumstances and has remained in a coma ever since.

The king opened the door to the ward and when his eyes fell on the woman who was sitting on her bed, his eyes nearly bulged out.

"Au- Aurora? You're finally awake?" the King whispered, while closing the door behind him.

Aurora heard nonetheless and simply nodded her head. "I can't remain asleep when my son is just beside me after how many long years. And it's in a state where I just can't remain in coma."

"I see," the King replied, a little elated that his baby sister was finally awake from her fourteen-year long coma. His elation soon died when his gaze fell on his nephew who was lying on the other bed, unconscious. The only sign that he was still alive was the even beeping of the heart monitor and the slow rise and fall of his chest.

"Brother, my King," Aurora started, "thank you so much for bringing me here to heal, even though it's been so long since I've come in contact with this side of my life. And thank you so much for bringing my son here to heal with you having the best doctors of any kinds. I do not know how to show my appreciation, and I'm shameful to ask for a favor from you after all that you've helped me with. However, I insist that I remain by my son's side till he's awake."

King Andrew simply smiled a sad smile and went to his sister's side and hugged her. "Please don't be so formal, my dear Aurora. Anything for you, baby sister. Anything for you. In return, just please don't contact your mate and even Arielle that you're still alive or that Kai-Ren is here. I do not want to put our kind into such chaos after we've escaped it all those years, back," said the King as he recalled the terror filled days where his kind were treated like objects, and not as equal beings compared to the other species, even though they were biologically superior.

At the mention of her mate, Stephen, it brought a painful squeeze to her chest. She also missed Arielle, her older sister and the other sibling apart from Andrew that she had. She especially missed her baby girl Kayra. However for the sake of her son, she simply nodded and whispered a silent thank you again while staring sadly at her unconscious son.
