{ethan grant dolan}
♡you and ethan had been divorced since your daughter was seven, but she is now eighteen and graduating high school
at the beginning of your separation, you had made it very clear to ethan that you didn't want to see him any more than you had to, mostly because of how messy the breakup was
you would see each other every so often, when you had to take her to his house for the weekend and vice versa, or if she had an event at school
now, you two were obviously forced to interact on one of the most momentous occasions of your daughter's life
as you sat next to each other in the auditorium, watching the other students get called up to receive their diplomas, ethan turned to you, admiring you.
your face was beaming with joy, a smile spreading and your eyes teary.
he smiles, remembering when you two were in high school, so excited to graduate and start your lives together. it seems just like yesterday.
"we did a good job, didn't we?"
ethan says and you turn towards him, your smile softeningyou couldn't be anything except happy at this point, and you realized long ago that ethan would always be in your life, considering he was the father of your child and your first love
"i think i did a good job"
you joke, causing ethan to laugh"oh, definitely"
there's a moment of silence until ethan speaks up again
"isn't it so crazy to think that you and i were there once, our lives and futures ahead of us? and now we're sitting back here watching our daughter do the same"
your smile expands as you finally turn to face ethan, but then you hear your daughter's name being called over the speaker
you both stand to cheer and hug each other, because although you were not together anymore, you would always be family
