Hopper's POV

This kid reminded me so much of Sarah that it hurt. But this wouldn't be so bad, I could tell. Like a late Christmas present.

She drifted around the kitchen, staring wide-eyed like she had never seen a kitchen before. I guess in a way she hadn't.

"Don't you have any bags or anything?" I asked, looking out the window. Karen had already left.

"No," Eleven said softly. She wandered into the living room, which I had painstakingly cleared of all alcohol or drugs. Maybe now that I was watching this kid, I would stop all that. Emphasis on maybe. I didn't know if I would be able to pull myself out of that hole.

"Uh, don't you need clothes?" I asked.

She looked at me thoughtfully. "I was wearing Nancy's."

"Maybe she could take you shopping or something."

"Shopping?"

Did this kid really not know what shopping is? Her confused expression gave me my answer. "It's where you go to a store and get things you need, like food or clothes."

She nodded. "I got Eggos once. From... Brad-dley's." She said 'Bradley's' slowly, seeming to sound it out.

I squinted at her. "The supermarket? How did you buy them?"

She blinked. "I didn't."

I sighed. "I won't even ask." I motioned for her to follow me and showed her to what used to be the guest room and was now her room. I'd had Joyce come over yesterday to hastily get it ready for her, and now it had light pink walls with an off-white bedspread and a wooden dresser off to the side. It was mostly empty, but I had assumed that she would have things to fill it with. But, since she didn't, I would have to bring her to buy something.

"Pretty," she murmured, brushing her fingers across the bedspread. "Good... pretty good," she added after a moment, then smiled to herself.

"You can put your things in here when you get them," I told her. "I'll make sure you get clothes, and you can start at school next week."

She turned to me again, and her expression was so happy that I did a double take. "Thank you," she whispered.

I grinned before I could stop myself. "No problem, kid."
