"What's wrong with your
hair?" John asked bluntly.
"What?" Dawn asked, looking at John as they walked toward the slide. The weeks had been slipping and sliding away. Time kept flying by. John and Dawn have been going to the same playground for five weeks.
"It's white."
"It's platinum blonde.. Not white," she replied as they approached the slide.
"Whatever.. You better not be afraid to go down the slide," John chuckled.
"I was never afraid!" Dawn pushed John's shoulder back.
"Sure," John said skeptically.
At first, John thought Dawn was just an annoying girl. But he changed his opinion after a couple days of knowing her. She was pretty. The thought always made John flush, especially when he would think it in front of Dawn. John's favorite thing about Dawn was her stubbornness and how easily irritated she was. He thought it was funny and always did his best to push her buttons.
Teasing her was a hobby.
"We're friends, right?" Dawn asked.
"I guess.." John replied.
"What kind of answer is tha'?"
"My answer," John shot back.
"Well it's stupid.."
"You're stupid."
Dawn shoved John away, "You're rude.."
"You're just a daft little girl!" John shouted.
Dawn pinned him on the ground.
John squirmed.
"Get off of me!" John yelled.
"Say sorry!" Dawn yelled back.
"Make me!"
"I will!"
John still squirmed. He hated how a girl could pin him down and make him stay down.
He sighed, "Olright olright.. I'm sorry."
Dawn got off of him and smirked, crossing her arms. Just then, John tackled Dawn down and pinned her down.
"Hey!"
"Let's see 'ow you like it then!" John laughed.
"Get off!"
"Say sorry!"
"For what?!"
John paused. What did she do..?
"Well?"
John sighed and got up, "I'm sorry Dawn..." He held his hand out and Dawn accepted it. He helped her up.
"Friends?" Dawn asked.
"Friends." John smiled.
Things went on like that, for a long time too. Dawn began to like John.
She didn't know why she felt like this, but she didn't really know how to deal with her feelings either. John also liked Dawn, but only a little bit.
The feeling wasn't completely mutual.
Dawn finally confessed to Lizzy about it after a year of keeping it all to herself.
"You love him! You love him!" Lizzy teased.
"I do not!" Dawn shouted back. Dawn was furious and embarrassed at the same time.
"Ye do to! Look! Your cheeks are pink, awweee."
"SHUT UP LIZZY!" Dawn bellowed as she saw John approach the two of them.
Lizzy was confused but soon noticed John and smiled. It was the kind of smile that a best friend has when they know their best friend's crush is nearby. The knowing smile."I 'ave to go now," Lizzy smirked at Dawn and winked.
Dawn blushed even more.
As Lizzy ran off John sat next to Dawn and laughed.
"W-what?" Dawn stuttered.
"Your cheeks are pink," John smiled and poked her cheeks.
Dawn started to tear up. She was so embarrassed.
"No.."
"Yes they are-"
"Oh just shut up..." Dawn squeaked.
"Oi, what's wrong with you then? I 'eard you shouting at Elizabeth too." He was a bit annoyed with Dawn since she told him to shut up, but he was more concerned than annoyed because he had also noticed the tears in her eyes.
"I haven't got anything wrong with me... Jus' leave me alone.."
Though I know I'll never lose affection, for people and things, that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more.
In my life, I love you more.
