Dawn was
becoming increasingly concerned about how much longer she would feel attracted to John. She didn't like having to keep it a secret. She wasn't keen on keeping secrets from him.
After all, he's her only best friend besides Lizzy. How was Dawn supposed to keep secrets from her own friends? And Lizzy knew about it, so now the secret was burdening her too.
It's only a matter of time before Lizzy will tell John... What if John won't like me anymore after he knows? What if he doesn't like me back? What if he doesn't want to be mates anymore? Dawn's recurring thoughts flew by daily.
She was distraught.
"I'm moving away..." Lizzy spouted at lunch time. It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The day had been gloomy and utterly boring. And it had just gotten worse...
"What..? Moving?" Dawn asked, questioning if she had heard the statement correct.
"I'm moving... Out of Woolton."
Dawn nearly spit out her drink, "H-Huh?"
"Me mum... She bought a new house.. But not in Woolton.. I 'ave to leave," Lizzy frowned.
"You can't.. I need a best mate.."
"You 'ave John.."
"But I fancy John... Yer the only one I can talk to about it!"
"You'll get over him, John isn't that great," Lizzy chuckled.
Dawn frowned.
"I'm sorry Dawn.. I can't change it-"
Lizzy was interrupted by the bell.
They got up and ran to their classes.
Dawn felt sick to her stomach for the rest of the day.
"Lizzy's moving," Dawn said, looking down while John pushed her on the swing.
"Moving? Away from Woolton?" He questioned, giving Dawn another shove higher.
"Aye.." Dawn muttered, for it was the only sound she could manage to make at the moment. She was wondering when Lizzy was leaving and how they could keep in contact with each other.
"Sorry to hear tha'..."
"'S olright.."
John felt bad. Like anyone, he didn't like to see one of his best friends upset. He suddenly got an idea. Perhaps it wasn't his best, but he knew it would take Dawn's mind off the bad news.
He started pushing Dawn higher.
Dawn sighed, "John, you know how I feel about heights!"
John smiled, it was working. He pushed her higher.
Dawn's eyes grew wide as saucers, "J-John!"
"Oi Dawn, you'll be olright!" John yelled, pushing her even higher.
"Wait John! John no! Johnnn no!" Dawn yelled. Although Dawn was frightened, she secretly enjoyed this. She liked how John was even willing to push her on the swing, but now she had a weird feeling. She was scared yet excited at the same time. A thrill, maybe? She didn't care what it was, she just loved the feeling.
John just lightened her mood.
Though I know I'll never lose affection, for people and things, that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more.
