Afternoon - 12:43 - Luke King
The sound of buzzing wakes me, the images of my nightmare still linger in my head. I wonder how long this will last as my psychologist told me that this may only be an effect of my past. I sit up to stare out my window, still snowing. I look at the time, 12:54, I'm going to be late for my meeting. Just another thing that keeps my days busy, running a company at the age of 23. Most people my age would be out with friends, partying or just at home sleeping. But, of course I got the best luck of inheriting a large company at 19 and a few sorrys here and there. My closet is roomie and cold as I get my suit and tie on. My door is cracked open, could be Dalanie brought fresh towels into my bathroom and she just forgot to close it. I think of just going back to sleep but my meeting is quite important today and could mean great things for this company I didn't want in the first place. I finally get down stairs and ask Ashter if breakfast is ready.
"Yes sir," He replies with a smile. "By the way, you got a letter today." He hands me a small letter.
"This is my fathers handwriting..." I hand back the letter. "Go and burn it like the rest of his letters."
"Is this necessary sir? He is trying to reach out and you still continue to ignore him, it's unhealthy."
"If he wanted to reach out he should have done it when I tried to help him, Ashter, now I believe you were about to do something, yes?" He nods and leaves.
The breakfast as usual was fantastic and gives me the energy I need to finally start this horrible morning off. I thank Blake for the meal and head to my garage. My medicine... How could I forget to take it? I quickly run up to my room as my head starts to rush from pain. I hear Ashter yelling something.
"Sir? Is everything alright?" He starts to follow in a hurry.
"Yes, yes everything is fine just a bit dizzy from my awful memory." I stop him.
"Luke, sometimes I believe you do this on purpose there is nothing to worry about, the meeting will go fine though getting there is important."
"You're right Ashter, go down and prepare one of my cars, I'll be down in a minute." I watch him as he leaves.
I look at myself in the mirror for a second, but a thousand memories pass in that one moment. I push the thoughts aside and open the cabinet to where my medicine is kept. Running low, I better pick some more up after the meeting. But something about what Ashter had said, i'm beginning to think he is right about me, I am doing this on purpose it would definitely be easier to just let my mind completely go. Just then the sound of an engine starts and I rush down to see Ashter walk back to the kitchen to clean. I see that everything's ready so I sit to buckle up and turn my windshield wipers on so I can start my wonderfully cold drive to my meeting. I go down the driveway and click the button to open the gate. This city, been here since I was born and it's changed so much, mostly because this company of mine continues to change it for "The greater good" At least, my father use to say that before he passed out with a bottle in his hand. So much about him always made me think he couldn't possibly be my father, always had to live up to the family name. The great James King wealthy business owner, entrepreneur, great minded ,and he never took no for an answer ending up with a son like me. Just then my phone goes off. Of course, it's Alyssa, my assistant that insists she is the boss when I'm not around.
"Luke where are you, late as always I see." She is obviously annoyed.
"I'm on my way now traffic has been very bad and the snow doesn't help at all." I reply with a stern voice.
"If you didn't know this meeting is the utmost concern of this company and seeing as how you are the CEO I would think you'd have the decency to be on time for this stuff."
