Afternoon- 2:30 - Luke King

I step outside my vehicle as a sharp wind brushes through my suit, stinging me with a icy sensation. The office is a few meters away from where I stand as I start to walk. The door opens when I get close to it, a elderly woman walks out and rushes through the weather to get to her van. i walk in, the warm air hits me with great surprise, as if the furnace was working over time. I find an open seat but before I can sit, the voice of an angel seems to pierce my ears with great pleasure. Turning to see the face that the voice came from I see Krista standing at the open door to her office. Her dirty blonde hair down below her shoulders, her blue eyes piercing mine, even though I have about a foot of height on her she sometimes intimidates me.

Mr. King, what luck. She smiles, I just finished my last appointment, please come in.

You know that I prefer Luke instead of that. I say still looking at her eyes, not realising I might have been staring, Formalities are little to no need with us Dr. Chase I smirk.

She gestures to her office chair where I sit. The same feeling I always get when I sit starts to creep into my stomach. Nervousness. She goes to her little table where she keeps her paper and special pen. She then turns to look at me, up and down like she was trying to figure out if anything has changed. I sit awkwardly as she does this and rack my brain to figure out what to say. Before I can get the first word out she beats me to it.

So from the call you gave me earlier, you sounded a little earnest. She clicks her pen and begins writing, Tell me, have the nightmares continued?

If by continued you mean still haunting me every time I sleep, then yes.

The pills? Have they been helping? Her eyes piercing mine, trying to pull the truth from me.

About the pills, Ive been meaning to take them but with my schedule I

So you havent been taking them. She interrupts, They will help you, but only if you take them.

That sounds like you, Chase, I can help you but only if you let me in isnt that right?

She sighs, That is correct, and it is true, I can only help you if you allow me to.

Just then a knock comes from the door. Her Assistant walks in with a hurry. Kristas face turns pale.

Im in the middle of a session is there an em-emergency?

We just received a call from the hospital, Its your mother.. Her assistant, Brianna, pauses. Her current state has worsened. Theyre saying that She looks at me nervously.

Now, I knew that Krista had a problem with her parents. Her mom was sick and her father left her when she was 12, but hearing this made it a reality. I felt bad for Chase because I had parent problems too, I could relate and feel for her. Watching all this go down in person, feels like Im intruding.

What is it..? Can they do anything? She looks as if shes at the verge of tears. She looks at me. Luke could you...uh give me a minute. I need to make a few She breaks down. Burying her face in her hands. The sound of her crying echoes in the room, and it kills me inside. I was there once, crying over my mother. Brianna walked out to go check on the other patients. Im left alone with a broken down women, great. Leaving would look insensitive but I dont know what to do if I stay. I start to get up, my keys slip out my hand and hit the floor.

Krista looks up, Wait. Im sorry, I just...Its...Its hard right now for me and this wasnt fair to you.

I dont know what to do, but I have the feeling that I want to do something, anything, i want to help but how? Do you need a ride to the hospital? I have nothing else planned today.
