Night - 3:01 - Jax Dean
I've been travelling across the city I grew up in for days. I've seen things I never thought I would. I've seen places I've never been. But the one thing that has happened probably changed my life, I met a man that I would never have talked to. Now I'm on my way to his company to stop a mystery that could change Chicago and turn the city upside down. His brother is on the war path against everything he believes in. I would like to say for record, this man was the greatest thing to ever happen to me. This man is Luke King.
"So why are we going to your company? Isn't this where Mark might be?" "No, that's where Mark will be. He thinks he has the third and final part of the serum. If we can get there and get the other two parts I can destroy all of this, not just one. Then this will all be over and we'll never have to worry about any of this anymore." "Maybe. Did you ever think that you're just bringing the final part to him and he'll be able to make all the serum he wants? He won't be stopped." "Yes, and that's why I'm not going to let him win."
The plan is crazy but I still continue to drive towards his building. His one hundred something story building. It towers over everything in it's vicinity. The storm is still raging and the eye of the storm is directly above his company. But there's a bigger storm coming, and he's not too happy about getting shot for the third time. There's not a lot we have going for us. It's an uphill battle but I can't help but look at Luke and get the feelings somehow we can make it through it all. The company looks bigger in person, I've never had much reason to come this far upstate. I've lived downstate my entire life and stayed down there. This is all new for me. "Chicago will never be the same Luke."
"None of us will be the same."
"I know.."
We arrive at the parking lot and we go inside the garage. We unbuckle and before we get out Luke stops me.
"Jax, listen. You have gone through storms and a hostage situation, you've gotten beat and hurt in the past few days for me. I couldn't have asked you to do that for me. You did it anyways. I need you to know that if anything happens, anything at all to me. You have a home. You have anything you need. The company, the house, the funds. Your dreams will be yours to do. I just ask that you stop Mark, if I can't do it. You promise me that." He looks at me in the eyes and I can sense the pain he's been through all week and his entire life. "I promise Luke. We'll make it though this. Together." With that, we head to the elevator. Luke raises his hand and points to the stairs. "There's cameras in the elevators. We need to take the stairs." Cardio in a one hundred story building, great. We travel up the stairs to the front lobby and open the door quietly. Didn't really matter how much noise we made, the loud speaker comes on and I can hear that nightmarish voice. "Well little brother. You thought you could pull a fast one on me. I admire that. I'm glad you came to your senses and brought me the right flash drive this time. At least I hope that's what you're doing because then I wouldn't have to kill you. There's a button behind the painting right at the front desk. Come down and meet me. Bring you're girlfriend too. She seems to be caught up with everything."
Sure enough, there was a button behind the painting and a door fifteen feet away opens into an elevator. "You're telling me you didn't know that was in your building?" "Listen I had the blue prints to this entire place and guess who sent them to me. My dad. He clearly didn't want anyone to know."
The elevator opens automatically and we go inside. It goes down and I can only feel like one of us is being lowered into our grave. The music to the elevator is oddly placed. The elevator stops and it opens to show us Logan waiting for us. "Come on, boss wants to see you." He pats me down and Luke, making sure we don't have any weapons. He motions for us to follow him and I can't help but hate him for what he did to Cody. I'll get my revenge but for now, it's not the right time. We go down a long hall way that branches out to a few rooms but I can see the main place he's taking us. I see Mark. He turns around to look at us and smiles. "Well, I'm glad we could have our last little reunion in the place where it all started. Now hand me the correct flash drive over. I'm getting tired of this cat and mouse game you keep wanting to play. I hoped it didn't come down to this." He pulls his gun out and fires it. Piercing my leg. I drop down in pain. My entire leg burning. "Jax!" I can definitely hear Luke yelling my name, but everything else just kind of buzzes in my ear. He hands Mark the information and Mark goes back to the computers and starts typing. "Don't worry, it's just a flesh wound. You'll live. If Luke doesn't try anything funny." "Mark, you got what you wanted. Just don't hurt her.." "Oh see that's up to you. I'm going to give you a choice, but more on that later. I need to finish the final precautions. Set everything up. You know how it is. Logan, take both of them into the lab. We have somethings to show him." Logan picks me up by the arm and Luke follow him into a room filled with bunsen burners and tools, everything you need for a chemical take over it looks like. Logan drops me into a chair and Luke stands behind me. Eventually Mark comes back with a laptop and sets up on one of the tables. He types away at the computer. "Logan come see this. I think I've got it." He goes and checks the computer and let's Luke and I out of his sight for a minute. I feel a slight prick on my back and immediately start to feel better. Like I just got into a nice hot bath. I don't feel any pain in my leg any more and look down as the wound is starting to heal. "Oh my...what is happening." Mark and Logan look behind them and notice the same thing I am. "Luke what did you do to her. How? You don't have any of the serum." "Well I didn't. Until I walked in here. You lead me right to the stuff. I had to make sure I knew where all of this was." Mark sighs,"I'm going to enjoy killing you very very much. Pray to which ever God you believe in because after I'm done with this formula, you're going to be meeting them." I can't believe Luke took one of the vials and healed me. But I fear for him now. It's got Mark even angrier and now Luke is in even more trouble. There's no one to save us.
