Afternoon - 1:33 - Jax Dean
It wasn’t my first choice, or my second either, but I had no other option but to take his offer. A nice house without dealing with my father, count me as sceptical. I had to take a long time talking myself into this. It took all my willpower to accept help for once. I told Cody about my idea, he seemed saddened by it but he knew that if I stayed in this apartment any longer that I would get hurt. He offered to at least drive me to Luke's house to give me a farewell, I saw no harm in it. He smiles as if he won the lottery.
“Great! Let me get my jacket, I'll be down in a minute.”
“Alright but one second after, I’m leaving you” I laugh
“How you gonna do that when I have the keys?” He smirks
“I can hotwire a car, you know that right?”
His smirk disappears, and I head out to the parking lot with a big smile on my face. Bringing more than one jacket was possibly my best choice all day. The snow crunches slightly under my converse, while it continues to snow and cover me up like a blanket. I stand next to the Bronco until I hear the beep. Letting me know that I can escape the cold grip of the weather. Waiting on Cody as he makes his way to the truck. Opening the door he sits down and rubs his hands together.
“Alrighty, so where we going? Put it in the GPS.”
“Got it.”
So we head off, and I turn the heat on. My thoughts trail off as the radio plays. Getting the chance to live in Luke King’s house? How did I ever manage that, I still can’t believe this. Ashter is suppose to meet me at 3 o’clock to give me a rundown on what will be happening while I stay there, possibly getting a job at Luke's company but I don’t think I’m quite qualified for something like that. I look at the time 2:12 at this rate, we’ll make it on time. We still have thirty something miles left, so it’s cutting it close but I doubt Ashter will be mad if I am a little late. I hope so anyways, otherwise I’ll already be on a bad start. That’s something I do not need to do. This is possibly one of the most important interview I will ever have. We pass the bar I use to work at and it’s completely vacant. We’re about five minutes away and it’s already 2:48. I calm myself and drink some water. We get there and the gates closed. Cody rolls the window down and hits the intercom button. Ashter answers.
“Yes?”
“Uh, yea. I have jax with me.”
“Come in sir, park on the right side of the fountain.” He ends the intercom.
“Fountain? How rich is this dude for real?”
“He’s the richest man in Chicago. What did you expect Cody?”
The gate opens and he pulls inside to the right and we see the fifteen foot tall fountain with a Poseidon statue in the middle. A giant trident pointed into the air with a stern look on his face. We park and unbuckle our seat belts. I see Ashter walk out of the house to meet us. My mind races as I look around and see everything that’s in his yard. He’s got a giant yard which confuses me as to why he has such a open field. That’s until I hear the barking of a dog.
“Ah I apologize, that’s Zeus. He misses Luke. But more on that later come on inside.”
“Okay, oh and Cody thank you for driving me here. Ashter do you mind if he accompany us?”
“He’s welcome to join if he wants.”
“Sure I’ll join. I’ve got nothing else to do until 6”
So we enter the mansion and I find out just how rich Luke really is, and it’s rich. The entire flooring and walls are marble. The floor covered with beautiful rugs, and the walls covered in paintings ranging from greek style to roman. Ashter leads us around the first floor that contains: the kitchen, living room, study room, two bathrooms, a break area for the staff, and a dining room. We see another small area that Ashter doesn’t show us but I decided against asking him about it. We head upstairs that contains: four bedrooms, an indoor swimming place that leads to a balcony, four bathrooms, Luke’s room, and a personal dog room for Zeus. Ashter starts to head towards the basement but one of the staff members stops and him and tells us to look at the television. The governor just announced a state of emergency. A massive snow storm is forming in the city. Possibly the biggest storm Chicago has ever seen. They warn all of us to stay indoors and stay warm.
