" When I was in elementary school, I knew I was different. As we got into the older years and went to middle school, people started 'going out' with each other or talking about who they 'had a crush' on. I said I didn't like anyone, and when no one believed me I just picked a random girl who I didn't actually like and pretended that I did. Honestly, I - " I pause, struggling to get out the rest of my sentence.
"Go on, you can trust me." Jordan reassures.
"I like boys. I'm gay. And I hate it I absolutely hate it! It just SO WRONG!" I scream.
Jordan looks suddenly hurt. "Why would you say that? It's not wrong."
"Yes it is! It's so, so wrong and horrible! You just wouldn't understand." I reply.
"Yes I do understand actually." He says. "I'm gay too."
I turn and stare him right in the eye. "You're serious?"I ask. He nods. "You're not fucking with me?" He cringes as I swear. But says yep anyway.
"But that doesn't explain how you ended up living on the street." A look of sudden realisation hits him. "Your parents didn't kick you out did they?"
"No, no no." I reassure. "They don't know." I admit. "But anyway, that's just the start if the story. As I got older I hated myself more and more because if it so I-" I clear my throat out of nerves. "I tried to commit suicide." Jordan gasps. "Three times." He gasps again and his jaw drops.
"Now you're messing with me!" He yells "tell me you're kidding!" He demands. I shrug my shoulders.
"No, actually I'm serious. First I tried to hang myself in my closet. This was at the start of sophomore year. I used an old belt I had stashed in there. My friend Corey found me and I made him swear not to tell any one. Then I tried to drive my dad's car into something, but the police caught me speeding before I got the chance to crash. This was part of all the drama that happened 2 months ago." I explain.
"What drama? What happened?" Jordan questions.
"I'll get to that in a minute. Anyway, the third time was the same night as the last, I tried to overdose after I got home from the police station with my parents. They thought I just took the drugs to knock myself out for a while, and that I didn't intend to take enough to kill myself."
"So you wanna hear about what happened 2 months ago?" I ask. Jordan nods like a little kid listening to an exciting story. "Okay, well it started about 4 months ago when this kid at my school, Fletcher his name is, he saw me checking out this boy Tyson who I liked, even though he hates me, in the locker rooms. Believe me I quickly got over my crush in Tyson after he started beating me up. But anyway, Fletcher started taunting me and saying I was gay and that I was a faggot. Me actually being gay, I took it personally. I put up with it for about two months, but then one day I just snapped. And I beat the absolute shit out of him. He dialled 911 just before passing out, and I just ran away as fast as I could. He was taken to hospital and he has some pretty bad health problems now because of what I did. I started skipping school so I wouldn't have to face everyone who knew what I'd done, and then I just decide to end it all by crashing my dad's car. Before I got the chance to do it, the police caught me. Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, driving un-licensed and speeding. I got in major shit for that which caused my parents a lot of problems. They had to keep leaving work to come and pick me up from school or the police because of something stupid I did each day, and eventually my dad lost his job because of it." That pretty much summed it up, I thought.
Jordan's eyes were wide. "Wow..."
