"THE NIGHTINGALE WON'T STOP SINGING IN MY HEAD."

Adalia sat on a throne, her fingers curled menacingly on its arms. She held her high, as regal as the queen she knew she was. Her nails tapped, tapped, tapped on her thigh, one leg crossed over the other. She was perfection.

An incessant buzzing reached her ears and she grimaced, eyeing the two girls standing in front of her and Cheryl. Their performance was quite bland and she could feel herself zoning out, entering a mindscape of a time where everything was peace and quiet. (Actually, it had always been a war zone of a deep purple with these two.)

Well, it was all peace and quiet until she heard whistling and witnessed an unholy scene before her eyes. —there stood Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper kissing. She would have applauded any other pair of girls, mainly for their courage to do so in front of a bunch of disgusting high school boys, but this time it was different.

An unknown feeling overcame her and she pressed her hand to her stomach, her eyes turning to the side to make contact with Cheryl's. They were both thinking the same thing: for a girl who had previously been a cheerleader, Veronica's moves were so bland. They knew it was a ploy to make Betty look good in front of the girls, but it would've been far more beneficial to actually bring something to the table.

The Veronica Lodge that once resided in New York wasn't standing in front of them. Instead, she had sent a sad excuse of a doppelganger with daddy issues to take her place. Adalia had heard her whole self-righteous speech to Betty about trying to be a better person; she'd been in her shoes once before, and knew it never worked out in the long run.

Adalia, herself, had made an attempt to change when she befriended Betty Cooper the first time, but her heinous ways could never leave her. Cheryl's words infiltrated her mind and she created the cruelest approach to the girl; it was a fact that Adalia could never change.

Betty shifted, feeling uncomfortable under the scrutinizing glare of Adalia's powerful eyes. The brunette blinked and moved her hand back to her thigh, tapping slowly — the calm before the storm.

"Girls," she addressed, lightly moving her head to the side to briefly glance at the open door to the gym, "that was quite possibly the most forced kiss I have ever seen. I know Betty is the epitome of vanilla, but I expected better from you, Veronica Lodge."

The blonde girl frowned, heart dropping at the word vanilla. She knew it was true, and she knew it wasn't wrong, but it still stung to hear it from Adalia. They had been such good friends over the summer; Betty didn't know what went wrong.
