"DOES IT MAKE ME A HOPELESS CLICHÉ IF I SAY LIFE WAS BETTER WHEN I HAD YOU?"

Just the mere sight of Betty dancing with Archie made Adalia roll her eyes. It was apparent to everyone in Riverdale except for Betty that her dear friend was not expecting for their relationship to go in any other direction than it currently was. Somewhere in Adalia's mind, she believed her irritation towards the unruly couple came from the green she'd masked.

She knew Archie would hurt Betty and, though she was once part of that list, it was known to a small number of one — Betty — that she was trying her best to change. So far, she'd gotten to the point where she could speak to Ginger and Tina without demanding that one of them held her compact mirror for her as she sat down for her routinely makeup check. As a substitute, she'd gotten them to apply her lipstick for her.

(It wasn't much of a change, but everyone has to start off from somewhere, right?)

"Give me a sec," she said to Cheryl once Betty walked away from her friend. When the redhead gave her a confused look, she rolled her eyes. "Don't you worry your pretty little head, Cherry. I'm not replacing you . . . yet."

As she walked away, she could faintly hear Cheryl yell, "Love you, Blueberry!" All sounds drowned out of her ears once she approached Betty, the girl staring off into the distance with a somber look on her face. Once Adalia was standing in front of her, she clenched her purse in her hands tightly, knuckles turning white.

Regardless, she was still nervous around her, which was brought out through the action of her gulping in her presence. It would have been adorable if Adalia was still thinking about the Betty she broke over the summer, but this Betty was far too strong. This Betty, courted by the richest of pearls, wasn't afraid anymore.

          "What do you want, Blue?"

"Oh, don't act so hostile, Betty," she said with a taunting smile. "What are you doing here with Archie, anyway? I thought you . . . swung for the other team."

Betty broke out into a barely-there smile. "Continue that sentence any further and I'll begin to think that you're jealous."

The devilish smile on Adalia's face dropped and she narrowed her eyes. "I don't get jealous, Betty Cooper; none of you here are worth envying. Back to Archie: why are you here with him?"
