Fuck! Ok, just keep calm, Liz. As long as you're not going into the water and keeping your vest on, everything will be fine... I tried to calm myself...
At noon we met with Mike and Tre at the beach. I've got my bathing suit on, but I decided to keep my vest on.
"Hey Liz, you coming into the water?" Jake and Joey waited for me.
"Yeah, I'm gonna smoke one before. I'll come later," I said and lit one up. Tre and Mike went with Joey and Jake.
"You know that you can't hide your scars forever?" Billie said to me, as I inhaled the smoke.
"I know. But I don't wanna make them look terrified. Because that's what everybody does, when they see my arms," I looked into his green eyes. My hero was sitting by my side, trying to motivate me to live. A few years ago I'll be probably freaking out completely.
"C'mon. Take your vest off," I saw a little bit of hope come up in his eyes. I sighted, threw the cig away and took my vest off. He stood up, lifted me over his shoulder, going into the water.
"Billie, put me down!"
"Nope, sorry. You gotta live."
"Billie Joe Armstrong!" I screamed, but couldn't stop laughing. He carried me as long as we arrived at the others. Adrienne, who looked like she fell asleep in the sun, came after us.
He took me down. I jumped onto him, dumping him into the water. Tre jumped onto me and Mike tried to help us not to drown.
"You'll pay for that," I said, looking onto Billie. I could feel, that Adie, Jake and Joey looked on my scars, so I dove down and came up after a few seconds.
We stayed until evening at the beach and went then for some ice cream and dinner.
"It's beautiful here!" I said. I enjoyed my ice cream, something I hadn't done for a long time.
"Glad you like it," Adie said, smiling at me.
Back at the house, we decided to watch a movie. Tre and Mike already went home. We picked some horror ones. After the film, I could see that Jake had to go to the toilet.
"Jeez Jake, don't you know where's the toilet in your own house?"
"Yeah, I do. Somebody walk me there? I'm not going alone after that!" He pointed to the TV screen. We all burst out in laughter. He shook his head and went in the end by himself there.
"I'm going to sleep. Tired as hell. See you guys tomorrow," I said.
"Night!" they replied, and followed me.
In bed I felt tired and good. Really good. But then the tears came up. I didn't want to cry, but I couldn't resist. My parents died ten years ago and I was having the vacation we meant to have back then. Sitting in the sun, having fun in the water, eating ice cream in the evening. I couldn't stop the tears running down my cheeks, falling onto my scarred arms.
Ten years is a long time. Most people can recover. But not me. Because of this car crash I've lost my childhood. I've lost everything I had back then. Fifteen year old girls shouldn't be as broken as I am. Fifteen year old girls should be in love with their boyfriend, not some razor blades.
I felt the need to cut, but I somehow couldn't. I was just sitting in this big bed, until the door opened and someone came in. First I didn't recognize them, but they sat by my side, hugging me.
"Hey, shh..." Joey said.
"Liz, what happened?" Jake wrapped his arm around me.
"I'm having the time of my life, having the holidays I couldn't have with my parents, because they died. Being here feels so great and wrong at the same time," I was still crying.
"Hey, I could bet, that your parents are happy that you're having a great time - finally," Jake tried to comfort me.
"Your body speaks of your last years. The scars and bruises. But you're better than that," Joey looked me straight in the eyes. The both hugged me tighter.
*Adie's POV*
Joey's idea about the beach was a good one. Everybody had a lot of fun. I was glad that Liz did, too. Her arms scared me a bit. But she looked so happy in the water, or yesterday, playing guitar with Jake and Joey.
I think I'd really like to adopt her. The guys were right - we can't send her back. She's full of rage and love.
The next morning, I went to wake up the boys, but their rooms were empty. I went down into the kitchen to find Billie sit there. We kissed hello.
"You've seen the boys somewhere around?"
"Take a look into Liz's room," he said, smiling a bit. As I went in, I saw them all leaning, hugging each other. I couldn't but take a picture. "Guys, time to wake up," I said. The three of them opened their eyes immediately and looked at me awkwardly. "Hurry up, guys!"
*Billies POV*
Adie came back down into the kitchen. After all those years, she was the best one I've ever met. I sometimes can't believe that I'm really married to her.
"I wanna keep her!" she said.
"What?!" I almost spit my coffee over the table.
"I want. Just look at that picture. They won't let her go," she held her IPhone in front of my face. I had to admit that they looked really cute.
"Thank god. I was scared that you'd say no."
"Are you stupid. I want to!" she nearly screamed, laughing.
"Want what?" Joey asked. Jake and Liz stood behind him. Liz reached for the coffee and took the biggest cup she could find.
*Liz' POV*
I grabbed the biggest cup I could find. I loved coffee. Billie Joe looked at me a little confused.
"Something's wrong?", I asked.
"No, no. You guys had fun yesterday?" he gave us three a dirty smile.
"Ew, Billie! Not at breakfast!" I shouted.
"Yeah dad," Jake and Joey agreed. I took a sip. Oh, sweet caffeine. I need a cig!
"Liz, you can smoke in here. Before you drop the cup," Adie told me.
"Thanks," I fished the cig out of my pocket, realizing that it's my last one. "Great..." I mumbled. Billie stood up and threw a full package at me. "My saviour," I said, laughing. "Thanks."
After breakfast Mike, Tre, and more family members came. They all greeted each other, asking the guys who I am and congratulating Joey. Then we drove to the school.
It was a typical graduating ceremony. You could read from the guys faces, especially Billies, how proud they were. Class of 13...
A few days later I had to say goodbye to Adie, Jake and Joey. They both gave me their numbers and I gave them mine. I didn't really want to go. It felt like - yeah, what did it feel like? Family? I guess, that's how family really feels like.
Wow, ten years makes you forget.
Yeah, it's family. That's how family feels.
