"Don't be stupid. So, you're ready right now to start a new life?"
"Definitely."
I walked up to the closet with all the new clotes Adie had got me. I pulled a My Chemical Romance shirt and black skinnies out, fixed my green hair and did some make up. I was fucking nervous.
"Liz, you ready for your first day at school?" Joey asked me as Jake and I sat in his van.
"Just drive," I mumbled.
"We're born in the same year. Even in the same month. So why are you one year above me?!" Jake complained.
"For heaven's sake, it's 8 in the morning! My parents sent me one year too early into school. I told you that a few days ago!" I shot him a death glare. He put his hands defensive up.
I walked into the office to get my timetable. I hated being the new kid. I sat down in the back. One girl with blue hair and a Green Day shirt came up to me.
"Hey, I'm Abbey. You're the new one, right?" she smiled and sat down at my table.
"Well, if you haven't seen me around here, than yes," I replied, smiling. "I'm Liz. Nice to meet you."
"So you're into punk rock?"
"Yeah."
"I've got some other friends in different years. We usually meet at lunch. You wanna come and sit then with us?" she gave me a smile.
"Sure," We talked a bit more and matched our timetables. We've had every class together. Thank god...
At lunch I talked a bit with Jake and then went to meet Abbey. She introduced me to her friends, John, Lara and Emma. They were all into the same music as me and I felt a little reflief - until I saw her walk in.
"You're looking at Emily, right?" Emma asked me.
"Yeah."
"She's trouble and the biggest bitch I know. She moved last year from-"
"Austria. I know," I interrupted Lara from talking.
"We've been best friends for something like five years. Together with my best friend Tory and .- well, nevermind. Then she turned two years ago into a selfish bitch, hipster kid and so on, took her piercings out, dyed her hair back to normal and started to bully Tory and me. We hated her. I hated her. Well, then she moved away. I guess I'm not very lucky, at all," I explained.
"Wow. Cliche, right?" Abbey joked I nodded and laughed.
"Hey, aren't you that girl who's been on stage with Green Day in London?" a boy asked me and sat down at our table.
"Liz, meet Ryan. He's a senior," He looked at me, smiling I waved and nodded;
"Yeah, I sang 'she' with them. You were there?"
"The show was really ass-kicking. 'Course I was there. You're voice was great," he smiled, the others looked at me with big eyes and I blushed.
"So you're the misterious girl from the show. Ryan talked about you," Abbey smiled at me too.
"Oh and guys, sorry, we can't come over to me today. My mum's freaking out," Ryan said again.
"You know, we're a band. I'm the drummer girl, Lara's playing Bass, John and Ryan are playing alternate guitar and Abbey's our fangirl," Emma explained.
"No vocals?" I looked at them.
"Nope. Our last vocalist moved away. Buuut, ahhmmm," Ryan didn't know what to say. "ahhmmm...do you wanna be our new vocalist?" ten puppy eyes looked at me.
"Wow, first day of school and I get asked if I wanna play in a band," I had to laugh a bit. "Sure. We can come over at my's today. We've got some equipment," I said and texted Jake and Joey that I'll walk home with some friends. Billie and Adie weren't in for two days, so the house was ours. (Well, we had to delete every evidence of food or pillow fights or freak-outs after horror movies)
"Damn Liz, how rich are your parents?" Abbey's eyes widened as she saw our house.
"A, I'm adopted. B, it's also new for me C, I've got no idea," I led them into the house. We left our bags in my room, grabbed some pizza from yesterday and headed into the music room.
"Lovely hell, that's like in heaven!" They were fascinated. Lara and John inspected the guitars and Abbey headed to Blue, Bille Joe's famous guitar.
"Wait, you've got a replica of Blue?!" she screamed. "May I touch it?"
"Nope, sorry. That's not a replica. That's the real one."
"You're living with Billie Joe Armstrong?!" they all screamed.
"Whoa, calm your tits," I said laughing. "I'm like a part of the family but also like a friend of the band and family. Feels complicated. But back to your, sorry, our band; do we have a name?"
"Ok, you're crazy girl. I like you. And no, we don't," Lara informed me, picking out a bass guitar.
"So, who's idea was the band?" I asked along.
"Nobody's. We were chilling an mine's, when they took the instruments and started to play, like, out of boredom, y'know," Abbey told me.
"So anybody's got an idea for a name?" I looked at them. They shook their heads.
"I think, you should name us. You're the new one to our group, so the honour is yours," John said.
"Ok...so how 'bout 'sleeveless dogs'?"
"'Sleeveless Dogs?" Emma gave me a doubting look.
"I like it. How did you come up with it?" Abbey smiled.
"Tre always calls me Lassie and something about the end of the tour he bought me some dog food. Long story," I said, laughing at the memory. He though that that've been simple crackers, but it were actually dog crackers. But they acutally didn't taste bad.
Soon after it we started to cover a few songs, like Green Day's 'She', 'Basket Case', or Sum 41's 'Pieces' Jake and Joey once came in, and of course, the others flipped out a bit. Even if I knew them only for a few hours, it seemed like we were raised together. It felt so great not being hated by everybody in school, but that feeling wouldn't hold on long, because Emily's pure existence.
As Abbey, Lara, Emma, John and Ryan went into my room for their bags, they saw my drawings which I couldn't hide.
"Wow, Liz, they're great!" Abbey exclaimed and went with the others for my paintings and sketches. "Where did you learn that?"
"Well, after my parents death, I hadn't really better things to do than music and drawings. Foster families can be sometimes a real pain in the ass," I said, laughing it off, but the others noticed that I didn't like talking about Mum and Dad.
"My Mum runs an art gallery. If you want to, I could make her take a look at them," she pointed to the pictures.
"Really?! That'd be great!" I screamed in exitement.
"But she'll have to come over."
"I let you know later. Bye guys! Meet me tomorrow at the parking lot, k?"
"You found some friends?" Jake and Joey stood behind me, smiling creepily.
"Damn, you scared the living shit out of me!" I screamed laughing. "Yeah. We were in the music room. I'm now in a band, that I named 'sleeveless dogs'," I said, grabbing another piece of pizza.
No matter how happy I was at the moment, I knew that Emily would ruin it sooner or later...
