"Hey Becky." I turned around to see Brian Headway, the school's social director, best dancer, and my best friend approaching me with a bright smile on his face.

He was a jock and based on the way my school operated, is normally not supposed to relate with me because I'm just a regular student. Not a full nerd though, but maybe an almost nerd. More like unpopular?

But he still associates with me. Not just because we're family friends, but because he's a really nice guy and an awesome friend.

"Hey Brian" I greeted. "How's it going?" Brian shrugged.

"Hectic as usual. You coming to the party tonight?" He asked as he fell into steps with me.

"No. What party though? Tomorrow's Wednesday. A school day!" Brian rolled his eyes.

"Tomorrow's Bundary Hills day."

"Oh." I said sheepishly. Tomorrow marks the day when Bundary Hills got her independence from Botany Hills. We just were totally different people.

"What's going on in that little head of yours? Like literally everyone has been talking about it." He teased.

Well, I've been thinking about two boys who murdered an old woman. How about that?

But there was no way I was going to tell him that.

"Well?" He prodded.

I thought about it for a while. I wanted to say yes. Who wouldn't? A time to hang out with your friends- but no- I was up for an adventure tonight!

"Um, nope. Busy. See you around." I said with a smile. Brian nodded, shaking his head, a little smile playing on his lips before he turned towards his first period.

I heaved a sigh of relief as I walked towards mine. I did not want him asking any questions.

I made my way to the school's cafeteria since it was lunch time. I was extremely glad for such a marvelous break, after finally getting out of my boring History class. I also could not get last night's incident off my mind. I scanned the cafeteria and sure enough my two best girlfriends were seated at our usual table, munching away. I grabbed my lunch and hurried to our table.

"Hey Becky!" Nikki greeted as I sat down. Kelly was busy looking at something on her nails. She was a very fashionable girl. She talked a lot about fashion and had great style ideas. Compared to Kelly, Nikki and me were no match. She was also very conscious of her body, hair, nails, and everything about her in general! - including her feelings.

"Hi Nikki." I greeted. "Kelly?"

"Hey B. Sorry. It's just that this stuff doesn't wanna come off. Uh. nevermind." She said then looked at us. I chuckled while Nikki rolled her eyes but still smiled.

We began munching our lunch but I kept on brooding on the event of last night. Those guys are really mean. How could they just murder that woman? I didn't know who but it still wasn't fair to murder someone's mother for whatever reason they had. I recalled they said something about killing him today at six forty-five pm. But I had to tell my friends first.

"Girls listen up." I said, dropping my fork. They both stopped eating and looked at me. I took it as my cue to continue so I narrated yesterday's incident to them.

"Whoa!" Nikki exclaimed, picking up her chicken nugget. Kelly and I gave her a dry look and she smiled sheepishly. Nikki was well known for her love for food.

"But why didn't they shoot at you? They had a gun remember?" Kelly asked. I nodded.

"I guess they ran out of bullets." I said. "Luckily, the rain began heavily so they turned back and left me alone." Nikki mouthed an 'oh' while Kelly nodded slowly but thoughtfully.

"So are you girls in?" I asked

"Sure." They both replied. I nodded.

"Great! I'd go over to Kelly's house later today and we'd both come to your house Nikki. Fine?" Nikki nodded.

"Sounds like a plan."

There was just one problem I had to deal with - My mum and Peter, my annoying brother -combined! If, God helping me, they did not ruin my plan, then I was good to go. The thought of a new adventure gave me chills.

I got home, had a shower and went downstairs to get dinner ready. My mum arrived later with Peter. They cleaned up and soon joined me for dinner.

"Becky?" Mum said immediately after dinner.

"Yes mum." I replied

"We'd all be going to Mrs Baxter's for a little shopping." She said.

What? No, no, no, please no! Not tonight!

Ever since that incident with my dad, mum had made this rule of me and my brother going with her whenever she had something to do at night and trusted neighbours were not around which was the case now. I groaned inwardly. This would ruin everything!

It was bad enough that she had to plant a tracker in me and my brother's shoulders. Making our scars become more than permanent.

But I had to come up with something, else all will be ruined.

"Um mum?"

"Yes Becky?" She responded, not looking at me. Her gaze was concentrated on the shopping list.

"Do we have to go tonight? If yes, would you please drop me off at Kelly's instead? I don't want to go to Mrs Baxter's store." I said, crossing my fingers behind me.

"And why is that?" Mum said, glancing at me. I shrugged.

"Oh well. Aside that, Kelly's parents aren't around so I also thought I could keep her company." It was true but that was clearly not the reason why I did not want to go with mum.

Mum studied me a bit, then sighed. There was no way she would want anyone to be alone. Bundary Hills has not been as safe as before ever since an incident long time ago.

"Well okay." She said. I squealed.

"Thanks mum." I said, hugging her. Before I ran upstairs to my room, I noticed my mum pull out her phone and I immediately knew she was planning to look at the tracker.

"I'd be taking my bicycle and Buddy along." I added as I flew the stairs.

"I wonder why!" She called back. I laughed a little.

Yes, yes, yes!

Shirley!!!
