I grabbed Shawn's jacket and tugged on him repeatedly, causing his punches to slow down and then stop altogether. He allowed me to pull him off my father, whose jaw was bruising and nose was bleeding. I felt bad for having little to absolutely no remorse for him as he groaned quietly in pain.
I set my hands against Shawn's chest and the skin around his eye was turning red, his nose bleeding and his lips busted. "Shawn..." I trailed off and he gulped, his adams apple bobbing up and down.
"I'm... I'm sorry." He whispered and I shook my head. "I just... he provoked me and... and-"
"We're going home." I cut him off, grabbing his phone from the front pocket of his jeans. He nodded and I licked my thumb slightly before reaching out, running my finger along the blood that was dripping from his bose down to under his lip.
I heard doors slam open and his dad was asking us what happened as I dialed Toby's number. I held the phone to my ear and suddenly the device was ripped from my hand.
"What are the hell are you doing?" Some man asked and pushed me back. "Don't call the cops! You know how much trouble we'll all get in?" He snapped, throwing the phone in the snow beside us.
"I was calling our ride so we can get out of her before anything else happens. Leave us alone." I sneered before reaching for the phone again. I dried it off with the sleeve of my dress and then I redialed the number.
"Did you do this Shawn?" His dad asked and Shawn nodded emotionlessly. "Why?"
Shawn held a finger out and then turned his head, spitting into the snow. I visibly flinched when I saw it hit the floor and he just shrugged his shoulders, not answering his dad. The two seemed to have a stare down for awhile before his dad went to help his best friend.
"Hello? Ready to go home already?" I heard a familiar voice and I looked up at the cloudy sky.
"Toby?" I asked quietly as they scolded Shawn for fighting him and yelled at him for hurting him. Shawn just nodded and stood up straight, his face emotionless.
"Jennifer, what can I do ya' for? You guys ready to head back to the house?" He chuckled and I reached for Shawn's hand.
"Please. I hate to be a bother but things have gone south, really south. Shawn's hurt and I just really can't take it here for another second." I explained and Shawn laced our fingers together as I ran my thumb along his knuckles.
"Of course. I'll be there in fifteen, ten if I don't get caught speeding." He joked and I chuckled.
"Thank you so much. I'll see you soon. You're the best." I told him and he hung up as I handed Shawn his phone back. "He's coming, we can leave soon."
"I'm really ready to go home and have a nice warm shower before going to bed." He admitted and I nodded, agreeing with him silently.
"What the hell was that for?" Mr. Mendes snapped when everybody else went inside. "How could you disrespected my friend like that?"
"How could you disrespect me by blaming me for standing up to him?" Shawn asked me. "If you think I'd just pick a fight with just anyone for any reason at all then you clearly don't know me. I'm your son, your flesh and your blood."
"I asked you and you didn't want to tell me!"
"Do you honestly believe that I am going to just tell you in front of everyone? I don't know half of those people, and the other half I couldn't care less about!" Shawn scoffed and then crossed his arms. "Really?"
"I'm not asking to tell everyone. I'm asking why you decided to hurt my best friend after all that he's done for you." His father exclaimed and Shawn gasped.
