Late April

~

I walked into History class, my last one of the day. It was my senior year, and I was completely sick of highschool. As I walked in, I was greeted by an unfarmiliar face that was sitting in the desk next to me. It's strange to have someone new join the class with less than a month left of the school year. Before I could wonder who he was, my teacher, Mrs. Princeton, started talking.

"Good afternoon!" she announced to the class. "Today I'm assigning you a project. For your last one of the year, you will be assigned a 'pen pal' type partner from the UK. After about 1 months of communicating with them, you will be asked to write an essay about the differences between England and the United States. It's good to know about other countries considering you will be on your own soon. We are going to get right to work, so when I call your name, come to my desk and I will give you your partner's name." Great. Our end of year project. I do love it there, though. I was there last year with my dad.

Mrs. Princeton walked over to her desk and began calling names. After a few minutes, I figured out who this mystery boy was.

"Mason, please come over to recieve your assigned person."

The boy sitting next to me stood up. I guess his name was Mason. He wasn't bad looking, but I was way too obsessed with guys. I haven't had a boyfriend since September. Besides him, I was a little excited about our project for once. I have some friends in person, but I could use someone new in my life. Hopefully it will be a hot guy or something. I accidentally laughed at myself out loud, considering I went right back to thinking about boys.

"Callie!" I heard my teacher call my name. I must have been daydreaming.

"Oh, I'm sorry." I replied as I walked over to my teacher. She held a piece of paper in her hand and handed it to me.

"Your friend from England is named Jessica Styles. I have her video chat screen name written on this paper. The school had permission to partner with skype for this project. Please give her a call this afternoon, she will be expecting it since they are doing the same project over there."

"Okay, I will. Thank you." I sat back down at my desk, and pulled out a book to read. About 30 minutes later, I was interrupted by the bell. That was fast.

"Alright everyone, I have finished handing out the screen names. Remember to call your partner for homework, and ask each other some questions. Please use your school accounts and not your personal ones. Have a good afternoon, class is dismissed."

As I walked out of class, I felt someone tap on my shoulder.

"Hey, you dropped this." It was the new kid.

"Oh, thanks." I replied. "I'm Callie, what's your name?" Like I mentioned earlier, he wasn't ugly.

"Well that escallated quickly." He laughed. My face turned a light shade of pink.

"Oh, sorry. Just a natural instinct I guess."

"Haha, you're fine. I'm Mason by the way. I hate to leave so soon, but I gotta get home. See ya."

"Bye." I answered back. Of course I have to embarass myself. Thank god it was Friday.

I pulled into my driveway and pulled my house key out of my pocket. It was already about 4:00. My dad wasn't home from work yet, though I hadn't expected him to be. He gets home around 9 every night. I walked up the stairs to my large bedroom. I was an only child and my mom passed away when I was little. We lived in a big house for just me and my dad.

As soon as I powered on my laptop, I logged onto skype using my school account. There were 2 missed calls. The user that left them had 'Jess' in the name, so I figured it was my 'pen pal'. I had a few good friends, but I wasn't great at meeting new people. After about 5 minutes of procrastinating, I finally went to Jessica's profile and clicked call.
