She couldn't give up this easily, Maja thought to herself, putting her head in her hands as she pored over her science homework. She couldn't allow herself to fail a match.

A near impossible match, true, but a match nonetheless.

She'd have to at least try.

That day, as she was passing him in the corridor, she moves a little closer and brushes her bag against his arm, then turns to smile apologetically, without slowing down.

Long enough for eye contact, short enough not to blush.

She lowers her head, smiling slightly. She'd taken a small step forward. First, she wanted to at least make sure he'd seen her before. She was hoping he'd ask someone who she was, and upon hearing her nickname he'd become interested.

Robert hadn't become interested, though, obviously, because she hadn't heard anything from anyone. She'd made eye contact with him twice again that day, once during lunch and once outside.

To view things logically: for two people to make eye contact, they both have to look at each other. Perhaps it wasn't just Maja's eyes seeking someone out in the crowd.
