Chapter 1 ∞

Mia ∞

A month earlier...

My life was good, notice that I said was.

I was a normal person, with money, a bestfriend, a wonderful mother and everything was amazing.

But it seems like once things are great for me, everything comes tumbling down one by one..

It all started when I got accepted to one of my favorite HBCU's in Atlanta, Georgia, Spelman College, It has always been of dream of mine to go there. My mother was beyond happy and I made her proud.

"Mia baby, you got something in the mail from that college of yours!" My mother shouted all the way upstairs so I could hear her from in my bedroom.

I turned towards my bestfriend, Kenzi, and both of our eyes widen.

We both shot up from our positions and raced downstairs, Kenzi's letter already came about a week ago and I was just waiting for mine. I thought I wouldn't get in because good things like this usually don't happen to me.

I practically snatched the letter out of my mom's hand when I got downstairs first.

"Hey!" My mom exclaimed scrunching her face up at me.

"Sorry mom." I apologized.

"Open it." Kenzi urged with a anxious look on her face.

She's just as excited as I am.

I ripped the letter open and didn't hesitate to unfold the letter back to read it.

"Congratulations Mia Collins you've been accepted to Spelman College!" I said before Kenzi and I erupted into a bunch of screams.

We jumped around in circles screaming to the top of our lungs.

"We made it!" We yelled out in excitement.

"Girls, calm down." My mom said with a smile on her face.

We turned to look at her.

"You guys are going to college!" My mom exclaimed.

We all started cheering and jumping around like a bunch of lunatics.

I just got accepted into my favorite HBCU and so did my bestfriend, things couldn't get any better than this.

A month later..

"Our dorm is so huge!" I exclaimed jumping on my already made bed.

"Yes, definitely enough space for the both of us." Kenzi added in putting up one of her posters on the wall.

She has posters of Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Jr, and our first black president, Barack Obama.

"Okay ladies, I want to visit your classes before I leave to go back home." My mom stated coming into the room with Kenzi's mom behind her.

"Mom, we're not five anymore, we're college students." I complained poking out my lips.

"I know, I just want to make sure your teachers keep you on track." She replied back.

"They have a bunch of other students, I'm pretty sure they're not gonna be able to pay attention to just one student." I told her.

My mom gave me a look like she was thinking hard about it.

"Okay, you have a point. I'm just gonna miss you that's all." My mom said with a sad look on her face.
