Perennial Love

They say people cross our lives for a reason
Then why is it that they leave?
Betrayal, indifference or treason
Hearts left alone to grieve

The memories remain beautiful
But every time I recollect
Why does it seem painful?
I hope the love will resurrect

We began as strangers
Met the traditional way
Who knew the oncoming dangers?
When love would come in the way?

We became friends, the very best
The type we share every thing to
The late night calls and daily texts
But I didn't see where it was leading to

All it required was short suffering,
A week's longing for me,
Your love came showering,
When I returned, to astonish me

You said you had something to talk
I couldn't guess what
On the way, a long walk
You confessed what it was about

The love was, but, short-lived
A year later, you hated it
I still don't know why you left
But all I know is that I miss it

The years of indifference were the worst,
The pain it gave me was searing,
In your heart, love had turned to dust,
But you know my heart's still bearing

You fell in love with many others,
I saw you were telling yourself that,
If you indeed loved those lovers,
Why did you leave them behind?

Four years and now,you smile at me.
Four years and now,you speak to me.
The time gone hasn't healed,
It has only nourished the love.

That smile is not the one you give all,
That look is not the one you give all,
My heart and mind race to think,
Is he beginning it again after all?

Is our love still a dalliance?
Make it a perennial one
Our dalliance a past memory
Give me perennial love.
