Sobbing softly to herself, Zoey clutched the deep purple material to her chest, holding onto it as if it would cost her life. Tears splashed onto the material, staining it. But Zoey was too busy thinking of the man she had lost, and just how much she loved him.
Her heart beated for him.
Her mind thought only for him.
Her life was... Him.
But now he was gone, and Zoey was all alone.
It had been a month since Rythian had died during a gruesome battle with Sjin and Duncan, and Zoey recalled it all too clearly. It made a shard of her fragile heart break every time she heard his name, or even thought of the endermage.
The only time she smiled was when she thought of him. When they were building Blackrock, their visits to the mines, when they were together... It was all her fault. If she hadn't have taken an interest in science. If she hadn't have left Rythian to join Duncan and his plots...
And the guilt was eating at her slowly, until one day, she couldn't take it. Rushing to the potion room at Blackrock, she choked on her tears, stumbling as she opened the large wooden door. As she rushed through the various assortment of vials, her eyes widened upon seeing a familiar crimson red one.
"Donec mors nos ex parte," as it read on the crusty, paling label.
"Til death do us part." Zoey muttered under her breath, translating the contents of the bottle. The redhead heard quiet shouting from the corner and turned around quickly.
"I don't care what you say, Cindy. I'm doing this." Zoey was crying more than she had before. Her life had been miserable, but if she did this, she could be happier. With Rythian. As she brought the open bottle to her lips, and as the liquid was about to touch her lips, the bottle crashed to the floor with a shattering noise.
"Zoey. Don't do this." A voice said, a familiar accent lingering on it. Eyes wide, Zoey slowly shook her head. She was imagining this. She had to be.
"Your dead, don't try to make me think different." Zoey said, cleaning up the broken shards. It was just her wild mind, it had to be. There was no way...
"I am here Zoey. Turn around." As Zoey turned, she gasped loudly, covering her mouth in shock. He was there but his mask wasn't. Zoey saw the black veins trailing up his neck, but forgot about it. Rythian was here. Alive. She ran towards him, attempting to hug him, but quickly found herself on the other side of the room.
"Zoey, I am dead. But I am something else. I guess you could say I'm your guardian angel." Rythian spoke, and Zoey noticed a white fog surrounding him. So... I can't touch him...
"Rythian... Have you been watching?" Zoey was worried, she knew Rythian would hate her not leaving Blackrock, not forgetting about him and moving on. Rythian tilted his head, eyes full of pity.
"Why, Zoey? You could have carried on with life, and could have been happy... Why did you choose to stay thinking about my death?" Rythian asked stepping closer to Zoey. She would never know how badly he had wanted to hold her, in the days past his death. How badly he wanted to tell her it would be okay. How badly he wanted her to just leave his spirit be.
"I... I... I love you, Rythian." Zoey stuttered, tears pricking the sides of her eyes. The purple mask was still folded between the tips of her fingers, and Rythian noticed it.
"Zoey... I love you too, more than you could ever know. But I need you to do something." Rythian was speaking hurriedly, knowing he didnt have much more time.
"What is it, Ryth?" Zoey whispered, drying her eyes, wishing that she could just hold Rythian.
"Keep that." Rythian ordered, taking a step back. "Live a normal life. But never forget, Zoey." Zoey could feel a strange feeling go through her as Rythian began to disappear. This can't happen! He only just got here!
"RYTHIAN, DON'T LEAVE ME!" Zoey screamed, sprinting to the place Rythian previously was and sinking to the floor. "Don't leave me..." She choked, bringing her hands over her head.
"Remember Zoey, I live in your heart. I'm always there." Zoey could hear the voice faintly speaking. She didn't want to lose her attachment to Rythian, but if it's what he really wanted... The piece of fabric dropped to the concrete ground. So be it.
"He lives in you,
He lives in me,
He watches over,
Everything we see."
