Hands snaked around her shivering body, Zoey stepped slowly up the painted white mountain, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. A blizzard enveloped the air around her, leaving a bitter frost nipping at her pale skin. The coldness that swept through her body made her teeth chatter and her face flush red. But she didn't care anymore.

As her feet sunk into the blisteringly freezing snow, it almost immediately filled up with more of the white fluttering ice crystals. The clothes she wore were ripped, the gaps in the material only adding to the burning pain that rushed over her. Staring forward, Zoey ignored all the pain. As long as she was alone, that's all that mattered.

Behind her, Tekktopia seemed to be at a standstill. Decked in the flurry of sparkling snow. The lights that used to stream from the open windows were out, leaving only a black space. The children that used to skip joyfully around the town square were gone, leaving only a rough, dull atmosphere. But most of all... The magical aura that used to enshroud the once lively town, the feeling of wonder that would wash over everyone as they stepped into the place... Gone.

A sudden surge of wind rushed over Zoey, making her shake and her hair to flow quickly, the redness flashing through the sky as bright as the sun. Shaking her head, Zoey only ploughed on faster.

A sickly feeling washed over her as she recalled the previous events that had been replaying constantly in her head ever since she fled from Blackrock. She saw it so clearly and it made her feel horrible.

~Flashback~

Bringing a hand to her chin in contemplation, Zoey's eyes scanned over the array of acids before her, plotting her next experiment with great caution. The white walls that surrounded her gleaming, in it's strange metallic way. The array of technology that was scattered around the room was impressive. Several large computers, each displaying an in depth profile of different facts and figures, test tubes dotting the marble counters, and even magenta lights that gave the room a more vibrant feel.

Quickly reaching out and snatching a tube full of a violent crimson solution, she nodded slightly, before pouring it into a large beaker. As she was about to make a grab for a dark, indigo acid, she heard a familiar shout from outside.

"Zoey! I have some stuff I wanna show you! You'll love it!" Zoey immediately recognized the voice as the scientist she had became closely acquainted to in the past few weeks. A smile broke out onto her face as she skipped over to the large steel door, swinging it open in one swift movement. The mop of blonde and the shocking eyes she was met with only made her grin wider.

"Hiya Duncan!" She said excitedly, the goggles that covered her eyes shifting down as she bounced happily. Looking down to the scientist's hand, she almost squealed in joy. The mechanism in Duncan's hand was the one thing she had been wishing for.

"A portal gun!" She pounced forward, wrapping her arms around Duncan. The blonde blushed deeply, but held it back, hoping the redhead wouldn't notice the flush that ran across his face.

"Duncan, are you okay? Do you have a fever or something?" Zoey asked, worriedly placing a hand on Duncan's forehead. He shook her off, giving her a calming smile before placing the 'weapon' in her hands.

"I'm fine, silly." Duncan said, flicking Zoey's nose. The girl let out a girly giggle, but quickly questioned herself. She shrugged it off, and stared down at the gun with awe. She thought she would never be able to hold something so amazing, but here it way. The sleek white design seeming to melt into the walls.

"Thank you so much!" Duncan smiled at Zoey's childishness. It shocked him how a single person could be so adorable. With those bright eyes that glimmered in the sunlight, her obsession with the thing that he loved, the lopsided smile that would brighten up his whole day... He wasn't afraid to say that he liked Zoey. Maybe a bit more than he should like a mage's apprentice.
