"So I scoped the place out," Patrick announced as soon as we were back in our chairs near the window. The thing Patrick and I did with the chairs kind of reminded me of the old couple from Up. They were side-by-side and nothing was even close to them. I was always sat in the left one with Patrick on the right. The staff here allowed them to stay. They used to move them from the window but eventually gave up after the two of us repositioned them time after time. "The front door is unlocked. We could make a run for it during the movie tonight!" His eyes lit up with enthusiasm which coaxed a small laugh out of me.

"What?" His curiosity reminded me of a child. He cocked his head waiting for an answer.

"Nothing! Nothing at all," I laughed harder. I tossed my tangled hair over my shoulder. My hair is gross. Weekly showers are not working for me. I need to smuggle in some dry shampoo.

Patrick smiled and tilted his head even farther, like a dog. "Why are you laughing at me?"

I toned it down to a small smile and shrugged. "I'm not laughing at you."

"Yeah okay," he rolled his eyes. I was tempted to lightly hit the back of his head like my dad used to when I rolled my eyes in front of him. He would always say, 'if you roll your eyes too much, they'll get stuck in the back of your head.' I held my tongue.

"Anyways, The place is surrounded by woods," I muttered. Now, I sat deep in thought. "We could camp out for a while. Hopefully Maria won't notice right away and we'll be able to get a head start."

"And if she does?" Patrick looked at me nervously, almost like he was going to drop the plan last minute. I knew that I couldn't pull it off by myself, so I had to convince him that nothing would happen. I had to make him comfortable enough to come with me.

"She won't," I promised.

"But what if she does?" It came out almost like a whine.

I wrapped a comforting arm around Patrick's shoulders and leaned my head in the crook of his neck. "We'll make it," I muttered against his skin. "We will. We'll be okay. You can go back to management and I'll find a new job and we'll both be alright."

"What if I don't want to go back to management?" I looked up at him, my eyes full of suspicion and doubt.

"Then you can pick a different career," I shrugged.

"In New York?"

"Aren't you from Chicago?" I smirked and then lifted my head off of his shoulder to look him in the eyes.

"Yeah, I am. And?" Patrick looked over at me with a dorky smile.

"Why would you want to move to New York?" Then it clicked and I began to grin like an idiot. "Are you flirting with me, Mr. Stump?"

"So what if I am?" Now it was my turn to blush. "I guess it depends on if it's working or not. Is it?" He asked. Patrick made puppy dog eyes at me and stuck out his bottom lip. I nodded my head slowly and chewed on the inside of my cheek with a revealing smile. "So back to the plan. Where do we run to? Is there a building near by anywhere?"

I thought for a minute before nodding. I haven't left this place for around a week and a half and I've been working here for a few months. "Yeah, there's a McDonald's about a mile and a half away from here. We'd have to cut through the woods since the driveway is so open."

"Okay. We can make it," Patrick said confidently. "You ready?"

"Definitely."
