Chapter 6

The weekend was right around the corner and the wedding not too far off. Jackson has been hanging out more and Noah is happier.

Olivia kept getting phone calls that would hang up.

"Olivia how's this one?" Amanda turned around in front of her.

"Nice." Olivia said without looking up.

"It's the same dress." Amanda sighed. "Olivia what's going on?"

Olivia looked up. "Sorry its the phone calls I keep getting them from a blocked number."

"You think it's Alex?" Amanda asked.

"I don't know what to think." Olivia frowned. "I kind of wish it was her but I have no way of knowing."

"Do you have everything? Your cell phone? Clothes? Money?" Alex stood at the airport with Avery.

"Mom I have everything that I need." Avery smiled.

"Testosterone?" Alex asked.

"Of course." Avery said.

"I love you." Alex hugged Avery.

"I love you too mom." Avery kissed Alex on the cheek.

"Your getting some stubble." Alex smiled. "My son is growing up."

Avery smiled. "I am mom."

Avery picked up his bags and headed onto the plane. It was gonna be a long flight. He got settled into his seat.

"Hi." A woman sitting next to Avery smiled.

"Hi." Avery said.

"First time flying?" She asked.

"Yes." Avery said. "I'm checking out schools and meeting up with a friend."

"A girlfriend?" The lady smiled.

"Not yet." Avery said softly. "There's something I got to tell her first."

"Try on me." The lady offered.

"I don't know." Avery said as he ran his fingers through his hair.

The woman took off her glasses and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "How about this?" The woman started. "I'm in love with my best friend and I'm flying in to tell her the truth. I been in Africa for over ten years. She had no idea I'm coming back or that I'm in love with her."

"She sounds like a lucky woman." Avery smiled.

"Plus I'm a doctor and I already know that your trans just by looking at you." The woman smiled.

"You do?" Avery raised his eyebrows.

"Yes. Honey its perfectly okay. If this girl really does like you then she's gonna be happy I can promise you that." The woman smiled. "I'm Dr. Maura Isles by the way."

"I'm Avery Cabot." Avery smiled at her.

"So tell me about your friend?" Dr. Isles said as the plane started to finally take off.

Jesse sat with Noah. "I can't believe he's really coming." Jesse smiled.

"Are you nervous?" Noah asked.

"Of course I am there's something he needs to tell me in person and I have no idea what that could be." Jesse frowned. "What if its something that I don't like?"

"You have no idea what its going to be." Noah smiled. "It could be that he likes you and wants to date you. Or it could be he's into men and wants me." Noah laughed.

Jesse smacked Noah's arm. "I haven't told him that I'm pansexual." Jesse twirled her hair.

"Relax hon trust me. How much longer until he gets here?" Noah asked.

Jesse looked at her phone. "He's here! He just landed."

Alex was looking frantically for the letter. She knew she put it in the drawer. Did Avery find it?

Alex closed her eyes. She knew she was gonna have to talk to him but how? He wasn't going to be back for a couple of days.

Maura headed  to her car as she saw Avery waiting.

"Do you need a ride hon?" Maura asked.

"I don't know. I mean I don't know you that well." Avery said softly.

"I'm a chief medical examiner and I can promise I'm not gonna do anything but take you where you need to go." Maura smiled.

"Are you sure?" Avery asked.

"Yes." Maura smiled.

Avery walked with Maura to her car. "Where are you going?" Maura asked.

"A place called the Dirty Robber to meet my friend." Avery said.

"That's actually where I'm going to meet my friend. She goes there for beers." Maura smiled remembering the times she had with Jane.

"Jesse is there with her friend Noah. I'm super nervous. I'm afraid to tell her but know I have to. Plus there's something else I need to tell her in person which has to do with Noah's mom." Avery said.

"I hope it all goes well. Your a great kid." Maura smiled.

"Thanks." Avery said.

"You're welcome." Maura said.

Soon the Dirty Robber came into view. Avery got nervous. He got out of the car and stood there. Maura put her hand on his shoulder.

"If I can tell Jane I love her then you can go tell your friend you like her and that your trans." Maura smiled. "We can do this together."

"Yes we can." Avery smiled as he held the door open and Maura walked in before him.
