New York City

I sat quietly on the grey clouds of New York, watching with a slight fascination how crowded the streets were, yet everyone moved as if they were the only ones there.

It had been two days since I found the ad, yesterday mom came to visit with her gifts. Which happened to be her parrot head umbrella and her old carpet bag, two things that proved to be very useful when it comes to traveling.

The ad had an address in New York, New York, a bit far from my England home, but I have my mother's magic so traveling long distances isn't a problem.

Anyways, after glancing the city's crowded strets, I knew landing via umbrella was a bad idea. So I directed my cloud to the empty harbor and landed there instead. Glancing at the address, I tucked my umbrella under my arm and started off towards the city.

A few years back, dad told me I'm the type of beauty who can stop traffic, at the time, I think much about the comment. But as I walked into town, everything seemed to slow around me; cars veered a bit off course to let me pass, people stopped and stared, and children cheerfully waved to me, a gay sparkle in their eyes. But I only smiled, nodding politely to those who were watching and returning the sweet hellos the kids greeted me with. Looking around, I realized they must have been staring because of how I stuck out with my pale skin and clothes.

As I continued walking, I started to hum and skip a little. When I drew close to a corner, and interesting couple caught my eye. Well...I admit it was the man that caught my attention. His skin was a medium dark golden brown, a pencil thin mustache crowned his upper lip, and his green eyes shined with a wild spark. He had been talking to an extra pale blonde woman but stood up straighter when he spotted me. I stopped skipping abruptly and slowed to a polite walk, passing the two of them and nodding a silent greeting with he returned in a silent daze.

I reached the corner and looked back, he was still watching me. Upon realizing I was looking back, he smiled such a devilishly wicked grin that my cheeks flushed dark pink. I managed to turn my attention back to the street and with a knot in my throat, I quickly walked away.

Some time later, I stood before a huge white mansion that stood tall and proud away from the hustle of the city. If I didn't know any better, I'd say this is the King's summer house. I gulped nervously before knocking on the black iron gate. Almost instantly, it opened and I nervously made my way across the yard. When I reached the front door, I smoothed down my favorite silver dress and pulled the doorbell string. A mysterious sounding gong sounded off and I took a step back and I waited.

After about a minute, the door opened and I came face to face with a lovely looking young woman who had long, wavy brown hair and kind blue eyes.

"Hello, what can I do for you?" "I found your ad for a nanny in the paper and I'm here to apply." She took the slip of paper from my outstretched hand, glanced at it, then slipped it in her pocket.

"Aren't you a little young to work?" I winced. Ouch, should have seen that coming. But I pushed forward.

"I may be young but I can be a hard-worker." A hint of a smile came to her lips. "I suppose I can test you. How old are and what's your name?" I already knew there was no lying my way out of that one.

"I'm sixteen years old and my name is Ann Marie, Ann Marie Poppins."
