Klair looked at the phone, it was an old piece of junk probably fit to be replaced but the owner was old and as such had a tendency to like old things. She smiled as she scratched out Victors weekly reservation and flipped through a few other records. His phone number was attached to a record they kept on each customer. It had his name, his phone number, birthday, and any food allergies. Apparently Victor was allergic to corn.

Scribbling down his phone number and stuffing it in her pocket, Klair tried to be discrete since technically she wasn't allowed to use the records for personal use. Even if he had given her permission.

She froze mid action as she recalled the conversation and realized that when he had asked her to eat supper with him he hadn't been wanting to eat at Montague's, he had been asking her on a date. She shook her head, she was probably just assuming something, no more likely he was just craving something on the restaurants menu. It had been two months and she still hasn't seen him come in. He probably just missed the food.

"Earth to Klair?" Sophie said and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Sorry, what?" Klair asked tuning into the casual background noise of the restaurant.

"I just asked if you had heard from Victor?" Sophie asked.

"Yes, he cancelled this week too." Klair answered.

"Did he say anything else? Weren't you going to ask for his number? For personal reasons? Dating reasons?" Sophie asked and nudged her coworker with her elbow.

"I did, he did. We did." Klair said and could feel a blush creeping into her face.

"Nice. So when are you going to call him?"

"Tonight? Is that too soon?" Klair asked looking up with concern on her face, she had only casually dated two boys before and both had asked her out. In fact both had pursued her, until they realized that her idea of fun didn't always include a bar or a bedroom. Somehow she didn't think Victor was the type to think of either setting as particularly romantic.

"As long as you make up a good reason it's fine, otherwise I'd wait till tomorrow. Play hard to get." Sophie suggested, "Oh, my tables done."

As her coworker walked away Klair looked back at the phone. She really didn't want to play hard to get, in fact she wanted to call him as soon as work was done. Waiting until tonight would be hard but doable. Waiting till tomorrow would be annoying. She didn't want to seem too forward but she wanted to get to know him. She rolled a piece of her hair between her fingers and frowned, she would call him tonight. She would just tell him she was making sure the number was right. It's a weak excuse but a good one all at once.

When the phone rang again she smiled as she picked up the receiver. Glad to have settled that debate in her own head.
