She scribbled down her plans for Friday in her day planner and then proceeded to stare at them. Klair had a date for the first time in such a long time, and she didn't feel even a hint of fear that Andrew would show up and ruin it. His phone call earlier had been so heartwarming and sincere. She doodled a little heart next to Vicky's name before she shut the planner and stuck it into her purse where it belonged.
She pulled her favorite song up on the computer and let the music sink into her mood. She was ready to bounce off the walls and had decided instead to try and draw something. Mind you she had no clue what she was going to draw. She would have wanted to draw Vicky but since she didn't have the faintest clue what he looked like that was out of the question.
She thought of drawing his grandfather but found she had enough portraits of the old man, the product of too many long boring staff meetings. She also had plenty of portraits of all her coworkers. In fact she had portraits of just about everyone she knew, even a few of Andrew.
She sighed and dumped her pencil crayons across her desk and picked one at random, red. She started to draw the outline of a man, she figured trying abstract might distract her enough that she wouldn't loose her mind before Friday.
"Klair bear?" Her roommate poked her head into the room and Klair looked up from the mess on her desk.
"What's up?" She noticed that Rachael's eyes were all red and puffy and sighed. Well at least she had a distraction now.
"So, I was making a salad and I may have broken your favorite bowl."
Klair's hands froze on her armrests, that was it? Her roommate was crying over a broken bowl? It seemed strange but she couldn't exactly doubt the evidence in front of her.
"It's fine Rach, I'll just use the other one." Klair said going to pick up her pencil once more.
"What are you drawing?" Rachael asked and came into the room and looked over her shoulder, "He looks hot."
"He is a figment of my imagination." Klair sighed.
"What about Vicky? When are you two becoming a thing?"
"Oh, I totally forgot to tell you! He asked me out, to supper, on Friday."
"Doesn't he usually try and eat with his father on Friday?"
"His father is a no show this week too." Klair looked back at her drawing, she wanted to draw Vicky but couldn't. Honestly it was almost as frustrating as having never met him. Usually drawing a person helped her get closer to them, see a side of them they usually tried to keep hidden. She didn't understand how she felt so close to him even though she hadn't drawn him yet.
"Well I hope he's as good in person as he is over the phone." Rachael said, "If so, you've got your soulmate."
Klair smiled and looked back at her roommate, grinning, "I think so."
