Kayla walked confidently beside Ashton as they strode back through the reception area which Kayla had discovered only hours earlier. She much more confident now, feeling less like everyone was looking at her because she didn't belong. (The fact she was walking alongside Ashton Irwin helped of course).
The pair entered the elevator which was before them and took the short ride down to the bottom floor. No words were exchanged between them whilst they were in the elevator but they were not needed. Instead they were both just stood in silence, a comfortable silence.Emerging outside Kayla gasped at the large car which awaited them. She wasnt sure what brand of car this was but she could tell it was expensive. Ashton chuckled and lead her towards the car, "Ladies first" he stated opening the door for Kayla and helping her inside.
She slid along the leather seat and perched by the window on the furthest side of the car. Ashton slid in after, sitting just the other side of the console. Her eyes immediately fell to the very muscular thigh just inches away from her own and she sucked in a breath desperately pushing any thoughts to the back of her head in order to keep her composure."Drink?" Ashton asked, breaking her from her trance as he pressed a small button, the centre console lifting from its original place to reveal a bottle of wine and two glasses inside the small fridge inside.
"Sure" She responded quietly, Ashton chuckling as the driver put the car into gear and drove away from the building.
They engaged only in small talk throughout the duration of the short journey, holding back the real conversation ready for the lunch they were about to share.
Kayla didn't feel uncomfortable, which surprised her, considering she was in such close proximity to an extremely attractive and extremely rich young man. There was something about the way his skin crinkled by his eyes and mouth when he smiled which drew her too him and persuaded her that , although there may be some arrogance about him, there was no evil. The car pulled to stop outside a rather fancy looking building and the driver hopped out and opened the door so she could climb out and step onto the pavement. Adjusting her skirt, since it had ridden up during the journey, she followed closely behind Ashton towards the fancy looking restaurant. He held the door open with one arm for Kayla to walk through. She was unable to ignore the feeling which jolted through her when the side of her arm brushed gently against the crisp fabric of his white dress shirt.
"Thank you" she spoke quietly avoiding all eye contact as she tried desperately to suppress the feeling of embarrassment which was causing a blush to form on her neck.Ashton must have oozed confidence and money, not only to her but to everyone in his presence, as much to her surprise, he didn't even have to utter a word to the young looking waitress before she ushered them both very quickly to the best seat in the house.
The table was placed next to a complete wall of glass, allowing for an Ariel view of the bustling city. Kayla was unable to suppress the puff of air which escaped her lips and she muttered a small 'wow' whilst looking over the city.
"It's pretty, huh?" A husky voice quickly broke her out of her own though as she whirled around to see Ashton, her boss, seated comfortably at the table head on hand as he watched her with a subtle smirk on his face.
She quickly hurried over and sat down disguising the slight blush on her face with her hair.
The pair soon ordered their food, Kayla a light salads since she didn't want to look too greedy and Ashton, a fish dish which didn't look too appetising to Kayla if she was going to be honest."Right then" began Ashton in a professional tone of voice, "let's get the business stuff out of the way first and then we can talk properly"
"Of course" Kayla responded returning his light smile.
"As you know, Irwin towers is the centre of an extremely expensive fashion empire. We design, create and sell some of the most beautiful and most expensive clothes in the world. As my intern and assistant it's your job to file the design which I make as well as contacting and dealing with various fashion magazines etc. How does that sound? Think you can handle it?" He ended with a slight laugh and a sip of the red wine which sat in front of him."Of course sir" Kayla was quick to reply, almost too quick, as she took a bite of her meal to try and disguise her excitement for the job.
"I see you're excited," he rasped. He nodded his head towards the untouched glass of wine sitting before her. "Have a drink, I'm tired of all this business. Tell me something about yourself"Kayla was hesitant to reply, not too sure she wanted to share the aspects of her boring life to a man who had money to do the most exciting things in the world. But there was an air about him as he leaned back in his chair, crossed him arms over his chest and waited patiently for her to speak. Kayla had to work hard to avert her eyes from his large biceps which were now straining against his dress shirt due to the position his arms were in.
"Well," Kayla began, taking a large gulp of the wine in her glass. "I'm 20 years old, still living with my parents, unfortunately. I mean don't get me wrong I love them to bits but I do need my space."
"We'll have to sort that out" Ashton interrupted her as she shot him a look of utter confusion.
"I'll have an apartment bought for you nearer Irwin towers. It'll be ready by the end of the week. I like to know my staff are completely comfortable in their living conditions and can relax completely after work as I'm sure you'll need it."
"Oh no Mr Irwin," Kayla gasped. "Please don't feel as if you have to do that, I couldn't possibly accept it" She spluttered shocked yet humbled by the offer."You can and you will" he simply replied, "anyway carry on, what else is there to know about you"
"Umm," Kayla hesitated, "that's basically it, I mean I love fashion and I've always wanted to work in the business so this internship is perfect for me, but other than that I can't think of anything else" Kayla finished, blushing slightly at the lack of interest she had to offer.
"You in a relationship?" Ashton nonchalantly asked, leaning forward and taking a sip from his drink.
Kayla blushed deeply at the rather personal question but gathered herself just enough to splutter out a response, " umm no, we separated not too long ago"
"Well I'm sorry for you. I'm sure he wasn't worth your time" He responded before standing up, pulling his jacket on and leaving a large sum of money on the centre of the table.
"We better be off, there's always work to do back at the office" he smiled watching as Kayla stood up from her chair and followed suit.
She couldn't help but be slightly disappointed that she hadn't learnt anything about him during this lunchtime but so much of interest has passed that she couldn't dwell too much on that.
She was sure this would be the start of a very interesting chapter in her life.
