The rest of the week had gone by quickly and without much drama. Kayla was enjoying her job as much as humanly possible and had spent the majority of the week getting into work early in order to make the most of her day.
She'd grown even more fond of her boss, Mr Irwin, throughout the week and ,although she hated to admit it, he was a large contributing factor to her enjoyment in the past week.
She had spent most of it trying to work him out, but she had yet to do so completely. At times he intimidated her, scared her even. His dominating personality made her feel two feet tall when he spoke to her in such a manner which made her sink into her seat and nod her head no matter the words which were spilling out his mouth. Yet she knew it was only because he was stressed and occasionally he would even return to the office, cup of coffee in hand, place it down on her desk and apologise for the way which he spoke to her. She had no idea which was the true Mr Irwin, despite how sincere his apologies always did seem. She had no complaint though, each side to him being just as attractive as the other. Something about his domineering personality made her weak at the knees and his calmer, kinder side made her wonder what it would be like snuggled under some blankets watching a movie with him.
She knew she shouldn't think of him this way, he was her boss for Christ's Sake, but that wouldn't stop a girl from dreaming ay?Kayla was currently sat at her usual glass desk filling out reports for publishing companies who wished to include Irwin labelled clothes in their most recent magazines. She had two cups of coffee placed infront of her, having picked one up for Ashton on her way in. This had become a routine for her, one which had begun on the second day of her internship when she felt the need to impress and therefore made the good will gesture. Her boss seemed elated at the gesture and made every attempt to thank her for it throughout the day and this kind of recognition lead her into the said routine.
She was beginning to wonder where Mr Irwin was on this Saturday morning, since it had gone 9 o'clock and she was beginning to worry that his coffee would go cold. Ashton always walks through the doors at 7:30 am sharp yet he still wasn't here an hour and a half later.
Just as she was about to lift the phone to ring reception and inquire whether Mr Irwin was in a meeting or some other plausible reason for his lateness. Yet as soon as her fingers touched the smooth metal of the phone the heavy door of the office burst open and Ashton strode in, seemingly out of breath.
"So sorry I'm late Kayla, but I've just been to pick up these." He rasped, dangling a pair of keys in Kayla's face.
"What are those?" She replied curiously, looking up at him wide eyed.
"The keys to your new apartment darling," he answered her, a cheeky grin adorning his perfectly chiselled face, "up you get, we're going to go and take a look."
With that he turned on his heel and started towards the large door of his office, only stopping to turn around once he realised Kayla wasn't following him.
She was, instead, sat mouth slightly agape, her blue eyes wide and holding a slight sense of bewilderment. It was only in this moment that Ashton realised the natural beauty of her face. All too often he had women throwing themselves at him who were buried under 6 feet of makeup, hair crisp to the touch, since they'd thrown half a bottle of hair spray at it. This was the real reason he'd never properly been in a long term relationship. Not because he was a bachelor, as many magazines liked to report weekly on, but more the fact that he had just never been able to find the right kind of women. He'd almost accepted this as a fact, what with the industry he worked in, but seeing Kayla's face free of makeup besides a swipe of mascara was a breath of fresh air to him. Perhaps that's why he liked her so much, he pondered in the short moment he was stood staring.
He quickly snapped himself out his daze and made a small wave to do the same to her, "come on then" he pressed.
She scrambled the pick up her bag from under her desk and wiggled her skirt a little further down her legs before scurrying after him as he left the room.
The pair quickly made their way down into the foyer where Kayla had expected to see Ashton's signature car waiting outside, yet she was slightly surprised when he strode straight out into the spring air and turned right at the office doors.
Kayla was quickly scurrying after him, as best she could in her heels anyway. She rushed outside, a whoosh of warm air hitting her in the face and she whipped her head around in search of her boss. She spotted Ashton waiting calmly outside the building next door to Irwin Towers, so she quickly caught up to him.
He used one hand to push open the door and hold it open for her. She passed through shyly, muttering a small thank you, and coming to a pause in the beautiful lobby of the apartment building.
"Morning Mr Irwin," the young man behind the desk beamed in the pairs direction.
"Max," Mr Irwin replied with a small smile and a curt nod of the head.
Kayla wondered why the pair seemed to know each other but no more words were exchanged as Mr Irwin placed a large hand gently on the small of her back and guided her in the direction of the elevator.
Once inside the small room, Ashton pressed the button which led them to the top floor of the building. The ride was quick and the pair stood in a comfortable silence until the doors pinged open on the top floor.
There was a small, marble hallway which held only one large wooden door at the end of it. It all looked incredibly posh and Kayla couldn't help but be silent with admiration and gratitude.
Ashton could sense the feeling oozing off of her and gave her a subtle push in the direction of the door.
"Here you go darling, after you," he gestured placing the key into her hand and nodding his head towards the door. She was snapped out of her trance at this and a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she slotted the small silver key into the lock of her new apartment.
As the door swung open she froze and nothing but a large whoosh of air escaped her lips.
"It's beautiful" she breathed turning to look up at Ashton who was stood behind her nonchalantly leaning on the door frame.
He couldn't express the delight her felt when she looked at him, the sheer pleasure in her eyes was indescribable and he huffed out a small laugh as she squealed and ran straight into the apartment. There was an entire wall of windows which reminded her of the one in Ashton's office as she could witness exactly the same stunning view of the city from her. In one corner stood a glossy black grand piano and a contemporary wire lamp shade hung from the ceiling. There were two pillars in the centre of the room which complemented the placement of the white leather sofas impeccably.
She wandered along the room, her heels clicking quietly on the floor, as she trailed her fingers gently along the top of her shoulder.
She couldn't wipe the enormous smile of her face as she entered the kitchen and spotted the white marble counter with stools on either side. Out of the corner of her eye, Kayla spotted Ashton enter the kitchen and in a momentary lapse of self control she ran to her boss and threw her arms around his shoulders bouncing up and down slightly. At first he was slightly taken aback by her forward movements but soon relaxed into the hug and started to enjoy it.
However, it ended all too soon when she pulled away from him abruptly her cheeks turning a slight shade of pink and tucking a small piece of hair behind her ear.
"I'm sorry," she gushed ,"that was so unprofessional of me but I just can't thank you enough!""Honestly Kayla, don't worry about it," he paused, "and you're more than welcome."
She squealed once more and ran off to explore the rest of the apartment. Ashton chuckled following after her and couldn't help but wish that he could make her smile like this everyday. There was something about the way her eyes sparkled in the daylight and the way her hair swished as she took in the entirety of the beautiful home.
He lent once again on the doorframe, and chose to just stand and watch the girl her had come to admire very much.
