 Disclaimer: I don't own Newsies.

Hey guys, so coming back to this story I decided to change things up a little bit. I combined the first four chapters here to be a prologue of sorts so that the other chapter will all be focused on Spot and Race's relationship. These parts are still unedited because I want to get the next chapter out by today or tomorrow. I'm hoping to get into an actual schedule with this but we'll see.

If this is your first time reading this I hope you enjoy, and if you're just waiting for the next chapter you just gotta wait a little bit longer.

Race had memorized the string of numbers the night they appeared. He had stayed up watching, waiting for them to show themselves, and when they did he had called and texted everyone he knew not caring if it was 2 o'clock in the morning, because god dammit he had a soulmate and he was so relieved.

The next day at school he had gone around proudly stating and displaying his soul mates code to anyone who would listen. The rational part of his brain was telling him that he shouldn't be boasting about the number, that some peoples just disappeared, or never showed up, but at the moment he was just too excited to take anyone else's feelings before his owns.

The joy only grew on his first visit to the Agency of Soulmate Data or the AoSD for short. He had signed up to go on weekly trips with his school, which involved a crowded bus with rowdy teenagers, but it was better than nothing. When they had arrived he had been ushered towards a welcome desk where all new recipients had to go. The line was long and took more time then it should've, but it was worth it when it was his turn.

After giving the lady at the desk his information and the code, she handed him a sheet of paper. He quickly had thanked her and ran of to look at the paper.

Agency of Soulmate Data

Name: Sean Conlon
Gender: Male
Age:13
DoB: December 5, 2065

Race couldn't help the smile the graced his face as he looked at the paper. So his soulmate wasn't female, he couldn't care less, he was still his, Sean was still his, and that's the most he could ask for.

----

When he was 14 disaster struck. Race had just arrived at the local AoSD, his group of friends trailing behind him. One of their friends, a crippled boy nicknamed Crutchie, had just received his number. It was a celebration between his group of friends. In arrive in the lobby of the building they all checked in before sending Crutchie on his way to register. Race himself had gone and checked on Sean afterwards, but quickly joined his friends at a group of couches.

His friend group was fairly large, though in Races opinion that made it so much better. They all lived in the Manhattan Boarding Home, and had known each other for sometime. Their leader of sorts was a 15 year old named Jack Kelly. He was the oldest out of the group, and everyone looked up to him. Next were Blink and Mush, fate must've been on the two 14 year olds sides, for on their first trip to the Agency they found themselves as soulmates. Then there was Specs, he also was Races age, though he never did receive a number. Finally there were the two youngest of the group Romeo and Crutchie. Romeo was a bit of a flirt, where as Crutchie was the complete opposite. They all called themselves The Newsies, based on the fact that they were in charge of handing out the school's newspaper. And while Race would admit it was a strange group, he loved it anyway.

They had all been waiting for Crutchie to finish when it happened. Race himself had been going through the packet he had received when suddenly a voice broke over the intercom.

"May Anthony Higgins please make his way towards an empty desk. Thank You"

Everyone looked at Race as he hesitantly made his way towards an empty desk. He quickly checked to make sure the number was still there, which thankfully it was. When he arrived at a desk he gave his name and the number, his voice shaking. In response the woman handed over a folded piece of paper. Race grabbed it mumbling out a quick thank you, before finding an empty seat near the back. With shaking hands he opened the letter.

To whomever it may concern,
On the date of October 29, 2079 at 11:35 a.m, Sean Conlon and his mother Jessica were in a car accident. The collision severely injured Sean while killing Jessica. At the moment Sean is believed to be able to survive, though no one can be certain. On his release from the hospital her will be sent to a boarding home. Further updates will be sent as more information is learned.

Best regards,
Harold Thomas
CEO of AoSD

Race felt conflicted, he was relieved the Sean wasn't hurt, but at the same time he was so worry. He silently made his way back towards his friends, ignoring the question shot his way, he sat down putting his head in his hands, praying to God that the number didn't disappear.
