I knew I needed to go inside but I couldn't bring myself to do it. My car had been parked in the driveway for almost fifteen minutes since I returned from the bar. The only thing I could think about was Katie. What kind of man would I be if I cheated on Adele? What would Angelo think of me when he got older and found out what I had done? Still, with all those questions racing in my head, Katie was on my mind. A deep breath exhaled from my mouth and I slowly turned off my car.
'I'm home.' I called out as I shut the door behind me. 'Living room.' Adele quietly responded. 'Be there in a minute.' I replied walking into the kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and then took an apple from the counter. 'I made dinner for you.' Adele said when she saw what I was eating. I nodded and then sat next to her on the sofa. 'How was the baby today?' I asked trying to fill the awkward silence. 'Good. He missed his daddy though. We haven't seen much of you lately.' I could feel her starring at me but I couldn't bring myself to look at her. Instead I focused my attention on whatever reality show she had playing on the television.
'You've been having a lot of meetings this week. Maybe you could take tomorrow off and we could do something as a family.' She said when I didn't respond. 'Maybe. I'm kind of tired so I'm going to head up to bed.' Without giving her time to say anything I made my way upstairs to our bedroom. When I walked past Angelo's room I stopped and quietly walked in.
'I love you buddy.' I softly told him as I watched his chest rise and fall with each breath. It suddenly hit me that I needed to fight for my family and give it everything I have instead of just going behind Adele's back. I just hope she was ready to fix our relationship. The only way to do it though was to forget about Katie completely. I reached in my pocket to pull out my phone. 'Hey, man. I need some time with my family tomorrow. Can you handle everything by yourself?' I sent the text to my business partner, Charlie and then made my way back to Adele.
'I thought you were going to bed.' She said when she saw me approaching her. 'You're right. I've been working too much and haven't spent enough time with you or the baby. Tomorrow it's just going to be the three of us and I'll plan everything.' She gave me a surprising look and then stood up in front of me. 'We just miss you, that's all.' The spark between us was still there no matter how much I wished it wasn't. My whole body tingled when she ran her fingers slowly up my hair.
'I know we've been fighting a lot lately and I'm sorry. I miss us. Remember when we were happy and so in love? I miss it.' She connected our lips and in that moment I knew everything would be okay again.
Or so I thought...
