I woke up before Adele so that I could make us breakfast like I use to. When i went into the kitchen, I rummaged around to find the pancake mix and then the rest of the ingredients. As I was preparing the food, Adele's phone started going off. I figured it was her work or something so I didn't bother with it. But then five minutes later it went off again. This time though I couldn't help myself.

I picked up her phone and there were three text messages from Laura. Without thinking I unlocked her phone and opened the messages.
Laura: 'sorry fell asleep but you can't give up yet. You know how much he loves you and peanut.'
Laura: 'but at the same time, all those work meetings?'
Laura: 'something defiantly seems sketchy.'

I couldn't be mad at Laura for pointing out the obvious but I couldn't help myself and started reading Adele's texts from earlier.
Adele: 'Simon has another meeting tonight. I don't want to read to much into it but it's the third one in a row and when he comes home I pretend I don't notice the smell of alcohol on him.'
Adele: 'Am I overreacting? But honestly what if he's cheating?'
Laura: 'He loves you Del.'
Laura: 'Have you tried talking to him? Maybe it's not what you think.'
Adele: 'We're just not happy anymore. Sometimes loving someone just isn't enough.'

The faint footsteps approaching took me out of my trans and I quickly tuned off the phone. 'Baby? What are you doing?' Adele asked entering the kitchen. 'Making my special pancakes just for you.' I responded placing a kiss on her lips. 'I've been thinking and what if we take Angelo to the zoo and maybe do some shopping and then grab some dinner.' She nodded her head in agreement as she poured herself a cup of coffee. 'A day with my boys. Sounds perfect.'

Once breakfast was finished and we got ourselves, along with Angelo ready, we packed the stroller into the car. Within five minutes of our thirty minute drive, Adele's phone went off. I could tell by the tone in her voice she was hiding something.

'Laura?' I asked when she hung up. 'Work.' She quickly replied. But I knew she was lying. When she lies she cracks her knuckles three times and then starts twirling her hair around her fingers. I didn't say anything and pretended like I was going along with what she said.

This was Angelo's first trip to the zoo and I wanted to make it as special as possible. Even if that meant Adele and I had to put on a happy face for our son and be a perfect family for the day. When we returned to the car around four hours later Adele and I barely spoke a word to each other. The whole car ride home she was on her phone. I suggested that we head home so the baby could nap before dinner.

'Wanna watch some tv?' I asked trying to break the ice. 'I think I'm going to go lay down.' She hastily responded. A part of me wondered what had happened between breakfast and the zoo. Was it the phone call she received? And who was she texting? I needed to fin out.

I waited awhile and then went up the bedroom where she was to get her phone. The door as closed with the lights off so I knew she was asleep. I quietly walked in and grabbed her phone off of the nightstand. When I returned to the living room where I was watching a football match, I unlocked her phone. The first name that popped up in her recent messages was Nick.

Who was Nick? And why was he texting my girlfriend? I decided to open up their messages and my anger grew more and more with each exchange I read. Here I was feeling guilty for having one conversation with another women, when Adele was going behind my back. But I had to act like I didn't know and I wasn't sure how long I could fake it.
