'Adele, I can explain.' I pleaded from the other side of the bedroom door. 'It's not what it looks like.' My back slid down the back of the door and I fell into the floor. When I put my ear against the door I could hear the muffled sounds of her crying. 'What is it then, Simon? Because to me it looks like you got a girl pregnant. I really don't understand how it can get any simpler than that.' Adele responded through the door. 'Please, just let me explain.' I pleaded. A few minutes she responded, 'come in.'
I walked into the bedroom that we share and saw Adele laying on the bed with her back facing me. The only sound was her crying and it shattered me. What had I done to her? What had I done to my family? Everything my fault. I was the reason Adele was heartbroken and there was a chance we would never be able to fix it.
'Babe...' I said quietly. 'Simon, don't call me that.' Adele pleaded through sobs. 'It was a mistake. It never should of happened but it did and now I don't know how to fix it.' I calmly explain while sitting on the edge of the bed. 'Why?' She asked, catching me off guard. 'Why what?' I asked. 'Why her? I need to know everything.' She said, sitting up and leaning against the headboard. 'Adele, I don't think...' I started but she cut me off. 'Tell me Simon. If you love me and want to try to fix this, I need to know.' I stared at my hands and took a deep breath.
'We met at this bar I started going to after we started fighting a lot. She had just broken up with her boyfriend after six years and we had a lot in common. We started talking more and then the night that I moved out I slept with her. I knew it was a mistake but I did it anyway. And then for three months we were together. We knew it would never last and I held out hope me and you would work it out and be together.' I looked up to find Adele's face red and swollen from crying as she tightly hugged her pillow. 'You don't know how incredibly sorry I am. I failed you and I failed our family.' I said with tears streaming down my face. After minutes of complete silence, Adele finally spoke, 'just give me time, okay?' I nodded my head and quietly left the room, unsure of what to do next.
