"She's gone," He whispered in disbelief.
The small blonde could do nothing but watch sadly as her best friend broke apart right in front of her.
Yeah, no. Like hell she was gonna let that happen.
"Sei," she looks at him warmly, serenity in her eyes. "It's all going to be alright, Yeah? Your mum's watchin' over us from heaven so we better behave." She smiles reassuringly, enveloping the shorter red headed boy into a bone crushing hug.
Seijuro started crying around the taller girl's arms. It was mild at first, just a few tears and sniffles. But then, it escalated. He could feel his father's overwhelming pressure to have a successful heir and his powerful words chilling the very ends of his spine. 'Crying was a weakness.' He had said. But somehow, around the comforting blonde's arms, he didn't care about weaknesses or anything of the sort. He could be himself, a feat that was only granted for a limited amount of people.
"T-thank you May." He stuttered, trying his best to smile for her.
Amaya gave him her signature dimpled smile in return.
"Come on, I'll get you some ice cream."
It looked a bit strange, a crying red headed boy and a taller, green eyed girl holding the former's hand as she ordered the both of them ice cream. Why was it strange, you ask? Well, they couldn't even reach the open window of the truck.
"One cookie dough ice cream and one strawberry ice cream, please." Amaya ordered politely in her childish tone.
Once they had gotten their ice creams, the pair set off to the usual bench at the usual park, the same park they had first met.
"Sei, do you remember how we first met?" She asks, laughing at the memory.
"How could I forget? We were 1 and introduced to each other on business purposes." He reminisced.
"No silly! After that!"
"Ohh. Our basketball game. Yeah, I remember." Younger Akashi visibly cringed at the memory, recalling his humiliating loss.
"And you said the reason that I won was because I was 'too tall and too fat.' What a gentleman." Amaya teased.
Seijuro's face turned as red as his hair as he recollected the scene.
"I didn't mean anything by it! Y-you're not fat or too tall. You're just right May." He says with blushing cheeks.
A comfortable silence enveloped the two as they both stared at the setting sun. It was Amaya that spoke first.
"Sei, do you like me?"
He laughed sheepishly at the question, knowing what she had implied but played dumb anyway.
"W-what do you mean, May? Of course I l-like you. We're best friends."
Did he like Amaya?
"I can see it in your eyes, Sei. Don't worry. I like you too." She giggled, resting her head against his shoulder as she continued to finish her ice cream.
"Promise me something though." May murmured gently, staring into the ruby red eyes she had grown to love and trust.
"Anything." He had answered immediately.
"Even if we're not together in the future, promise... Promise that you'll continue to be you, for me? I want you to be happy, Sei. Don't let your father control you." The blonde affirmed.
