Min-ji felt the bug crawl on her arm and she yelled again. "Eomma!!!!" she screamed as tears fell down her face.
V slapped the bug away and hugged her close. Min-ji was crying in earnest now. His heart thundered loudly in his chest because he didn't expect her to be deathly afraid. His Min-ji - who almost died twice – was afraid of bugs. He almost laughed because he thought that she was this strong, super human who wasn't afraid of anything but here she was crying in his arms because of a bug.
V's heart still pounded loudly not because of fear anymore but because of excitement that he was hugging Min-ji so close. He rubbed her back as he apologized, "Shh...shh... It's okay. It's gone see?" he pointed in the direction where he slapped the bug away. 'Sorry Mr. Bug!!!' he thought.
"Is it gone?" Min-ji's voice was muffled because she was talking against his chest. "Yes, it's gone. I'm sorry!" V said again. Min-ji finally looked up and the look in her eyes told him that she trusted him. He wanted to regret his actions that made her cry but he was glad that he discovered this side of her that made him want to protect her.
V helped her up and settled her on a flat rock. "Let's get some air..." he said and held her hand as she sat. The wind's timing was on point and V was thankful that Min-ji seemed refreshed by the cold air. After a while, V felt guilty because Min-ji stayed quiet. "Hey...Min-ji-" V started to ask her but didn't finish his question because Min-ji leaned her head on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry for crying. I didn't mean to ruin tonight's-" she said but V interrupted her. "Yah – it's not your fault. I'm the one who's really sorry, Min-ji-yah..." he said as he squeezed her hand.
Min-ji smiled as she looked at him. "I must have looked really stupid huh? Who gets scared like that?! I hate myself!" she ranted. This time V couldn't stop the laugh that bubbled out of him. His laughed sounded deep and weird but Min-ji's gut felt a familiar fluttering whenever he was near.
"No! You actually looked really cute!" he replied in between laughs.
"Yah – it wasn't even that funny! I thought I'd die!!!" she exclaimed and he laughed even more. "I swear, you looked really cute, Min-ji-yah!!!" V exclaimed as he ruffled her hair.
Suddenly the air around them cackled with tension. V was so aware of her at that moment and Min-ji too gasped as she felt the air around them change. V never broke his gaze and Min-ji held her own. He moved very slightly at first that Min-ji thought that it was only her imagination.
But V's face was closing in on hers, inch by inch and her heartbeat pounded loudly in her ears. 'He's going to kiss me!' she realized, and her heart soared. She knew then that kissing him back would also show him how she truly felt.
V's lips finally touched hers and he almost collapsed from the shock that coursed through his body. V didn't have any experience in kissing but he didn't care and just focused on Min-ji. When the kiss finally registered on his mind, his eyes rounded greatly as he stared at Min-ji.
He wanted to show her his true feelings but he ended up saying, "You taste like coffee..." Min-ji touched her lips, clutched her heart and laughed. "You're so weird! But I like you!" she declared.
This time both their mouths hung open as they stared into each other's eyes.
