Chapter 10 A Message from Bennie

It was a girl.

Her body was tangled in leaves and tree roots.

She had bites and scratches all over her.

Her clothes were torn and her pale face was frozen in terror.

From what I could smell she was human.

We all stood frozen, I felt sick to my stomach, I thought Jonny was going to pass out without Jordan letting him lead on her.

Max and Skylur turned away looking at the ground.

We ran back to my house still in shock.

"What are we going to do!" Jonny said as we shifted back.

"We need to call the police," Jordan said.

"We can't if we do then they will just ask us why we were in the woods in the middle of the night," I said, "won't that sound suspicious?"

"Yeah" Skylur said.

We all looked at one another,
"Okay" Max started, " how about we call them in the morning, we could say we found the body on our morning run."

It was a good idea, everyone shifted and left, I climbed back up to my window and closed the window.

I laid on my bed and thought 'who was that?' 'Who killed them' 'Was it another werewolf that left those marks'

A million questions ran around in my mind.

I hardly slept at all that night and in the morning I ate them ran off to Max's house.

We waited till 8 to call.
When we did they put caution tape everywhere on the trees and rocks.

They asked us questions like did we see anyone or hear anything.

We shook our heads, we listen as they examined the body.

We had to keep a distance but with our hearing we could hear what she said, "Looks like a wolf attack" the women in yellow said.

The police officer came up to us.

"Don't worry kids it was just an accident, but I will be talking to your parents to make sure that their around next time you run in these woods." He said, "We don't want any of your kids getting hurt with all the wolfs around,"

He took everyone back home and I was the last one.

When Claire open the door to see a police officer standing next to me she looked like she would scream.

She looked at me like 'What on Earth did you do!'

"I'm officer Jerry Kingmen" he said, I went to sit in the living room he talked to her.

She looked relived I wasn't in trouble and I think she started flirting with him because they both went red in the face.

After he left Claire sat me down, "I know you didn't do anything wrong and I'm glad that you made friends but I want you to stay by the house for now on,"

My jaw dropped, "What but I love the woods" I said.

"I know but I don't what your getting hurt or taking any chances" she said.

I ran up stairs and went to the phone to tell the others.

After I did they would send me a message tonight.

I went in my room and didn't go to dinner.

After it got dark I was about to doze off when I heard a scratch at the window.

I open it and Bennie jumped in sitting on the window seal.

He had a rolled paper tied around his belly.

I took it off and read it.

Ira-
Meet us at Jordan's house at 1:00 her parents should be gone by then. We need to find out who killed that girl, we think the killer is in our pack. -Max, Skylur, Jonny, Jordan

I turned the note over and wrote 'I'll be there'.

I tied it around Bennie and he took off.

I sat on my bed and thought 'Wow, what a squirrel'.
