Chapter Sixteen

After the auction the music begins to play and people start heading to the dance floor. My father grabs my mothers hand leading her to the floor. I am surprised when my brother asks me to dance. I shoot Parker a curious glance and he nods for me to go ahead and dance with my brother. Slowly getting up from my seat I follow Teddy to the dance floor.

" you need to stay away from him." My brother states as we start dancing to the song.

"what why? Do you know Parker?" I ask

"yes I know him and he's not someone you need to be with."

"Teddy, that's not your decision to make. I'm 18 years old I can make decisions for myself."

" i'm not saying you can't. All I'm saying is that he is not someone who is good for you."

"how can you know who is and isn't good for me. That's for me to decide." I say.

"he's into things that you have no business knowing about or being a part of. Things that in the end could leave you hurt."

"what are you talking about. Stop being so cryptic and just tell me what the hell you're talking about."

"phoebe would you just shut up and listen to me for once. That's all I'm going to tell you. If you don't stay away from him I'll be forced to step in."

"oh my God Theodore. You will do no such thing! this is my life and I will make decisions for myself and who I date is none of your fucking business. So keep your nose out of my business and out of my relationships."

With that ice storm off out of the tent and towards the house. I need a few minutes to myself so I can compose myself before heading back to my family. As soon as I walk through the back door I notice Gale still in the kitchen. She looks up as I walk in and can immediately tell something is up.

"what's wrong my child?" She asks

"my stupid brother is trying to but his hand in my relationship."

"now why would he be doing that?"

"he says he knows Parker and that Parker is not good for me it'll only end up hurting me but I'm pretty sure I've known Parker longer than he has in Parker would never do anything to hurt me."

" it seems to me he's just trying to look out for you. Now he may be going a little overboard with it but what can you expect he's his father son."

"yeah I know he's trying to protect me but he was also going on about how Parkers into things that I have no business knowing about or being a part of."

"do you know what he's talking about?"

"No Teddy wouldn't tell me." I sigh.

"i'd say you just need to keep your guard up and be very vigilant as to the things Parker does around you or does in his life."

"I already do that. What dad and Teddy don't know is that I dated Parker when I was 16. I broke up with him because we didn't exactly see Eye to Eye on something that he likes."

"Did your mother know you were dating him?"

"yeah she always knew. Hell she even knew when we got back together. She's always hid it from my dad per my request." I say before taking a sip of the lemonade she poured me.

"Phoebe, may I have a word with you." My fathers why boomed from behind me.

"Yes dad ,what is it?" I say as I watch Gale disappear into the other room.

"what happened between you and your brother? I saw you storm off and you didn't look happy."

" he was sticking his nose in my relationship trying to tell me what is and isn't good for me or rather who is or isn't good for me."
